“THe price is right!”

The service wa good. The interior was a little worn...the coffee pot was broken...but just for a place to sleep this was a good place to stay. The restaurant Hester's connected to the motel had good home -cooked food. There is a 10% discount. We got 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bisquits, and a large bowl of grits with all the coffee we wanted for less than $5.00! Also, right down the street from the bath houses and several churches...

“Horrible Experience Even with a Room Change”

In our first room, the bath tub would not drain water and we could not get enough cold water to make the hot water bearable, so we switched to a second room. The second room had a broken lamp, and the cable was not working. In addition, the toilet made a horrible racket each time it was flushed, and due to the thin walls or lack of insulation, we could hear every nearby toilet flush, and even the sound of our neighbor splashing around in their tub! The noise from the pipes woke us up several times. The pool was so disgusting that my daughter (who loves to swim) spent 2 minutes in it and refused to go back. The ladders to get out were loose in the concrete, and the pool area was infested with bees.

“Cheap but quiet”

OK, you know if the price is cheap you're not going to get luxury. But this was an OK place to stay if all you need is a place to sleep that is pretty quiet and convenient to downtown and the racetrack. I had a king size bed and it was confortable -- again, not luxurious. Good water pressure. No refrigerator, but there was a coffee maker and microwave. I've gone back once and things were the same. They know how to handle prepaid internet reservations.

“Scary part of town and uncomfortable rooms”

Carpets were dirty in both rooms we were in, one had crumbs of somekind in the middle of the floor. Our 2 year-old had black feet from the carpets the whole time. The beds were hard as rocks, and the linens were probably laundered, but still smelled "old" or "musty." There were problems with the water both days. The temperature available in the shower was between hot and melt-your-skin-off. When we called to ask about it, we were told it was site-wide and were given some excuse that "it was hot outside." (What??) We had to bathe our 3 children by pouring water on them from the sink. Which reminds me, when we turned the water on in the sink the first night, it came out yellow for a few seconds. Probably old pipes, but not water I would want to drink. And both of the vending machines were out of order, so we had to wait until morning to get some bottled water from the gas station across the street. We were on the lower level, and several times had strangers and even housekeepers looking in our window if we had the black-out curtain even slightly open. On the up side, the housekeeper didn't mess with our personal belongings (although we did use the in-room safe, if that gives you an idea of the environment), and did a good job of cleaning our room. If you don't care about the quality of a stay, and are just looking for a place to crash for a night, this motel works. But we were staying a few days to vacation with our kids, and this motel made the experience LESS than memorable.

Area recommendations
I would suggest staying on the south side of Central Ave & Hwy 70/270, or at least within .5 miles north of it. Anything further north gets into the downtown, more run-down part of town.
Family-friendly activities
We went to Magic Springs /Crystal Falls amusement park. Fun time, although I would suggest slitting it into 2 days to do everything the park has to offer. We bought season passes because paying for 2 days separately came out to MORE than the cost of a season pass per person.

“Won't Stay Again”

The location of this hotel warrants that it be updated to a condition better than it is. The facility is OLD bu offered clean towels and a bed and a place to shower. The room had old furnitiure, a broken lamp inadequate electrical outlets, a broken phone. There wasn't an iron in the room and when I requested one, I was given an old one with a tattered desk top ironing board. The holel management did not try to control the loud noise and antics of some of its tenants. It is a shame that this hotel, regardless of its prime location is not updated. I'm sure that the cost of repair would be returned with business.

“Would not stay at this motel again!”

We booked 2 rooms - one had no toilet paper and the shower leaked out onto the carpet. Light bulbs missing in both rooms, food stuff on floors that didn't belong to us, very stained linens, no clocks in room, metal in bathroom (tissue holders, etc) rusted. Room and bath both filthy! Learned our lesson on this one!

Traveler's tip
Hot Springs has lots to do with the family - lots to choose from. Really enjoyed the Mid America Science Museum!
