The only problemsPosted Mar 26, 2015
There were only small issues with this hotel however it had a lastly affect. The first was the front desk staff. Carmen was not accomidating and pretty rude. She had a "this is how it is tough luck" attitude. We did not receive any helpful information such as navigating the resort or charges of certain things. Additionally, we had to change rooms on Saturday which wouldn't have been an issue but we had to do it at 5am unless we wanted to leave our bags with someone. They could t accomidate us at all in regards to beds either at check in or when we switched rooms. The last issue is that we had to call to get our room cleaned since we were missed two days in a row. Other than these things the rooms are spacious and it's right next to the beach.

Newly redecorated room. Clean and quiet.Posted Mar 25, 2015
A beautiful setting, beachfront property. Several pools to chose from. Covered beach chairs so you can escape the hot midday sun if you chose. Many beach lounge chairs. There always seemed to be enough to go around. Wonderful beach maintenance, clean and safe.

Fantastic views and wonderfull staff!Posted Mar 18, 2015
Pros: Condo with a balcony to start and end our day, looking and listening to the ocean. Friendly, engaging staff!
Cons: The pool bar closed at 10:00 p.m. We would love to have one more hour to have an after dinner drink.
Location: Good location. A free shuttle to Captain's Cove restaurant and the other Royal resorts offers plenty of restaurant options on the strip.
Two weeks in paradise! The view from our balcony was incredible. We could see the beach and the pool. The two bedroom condo was beautiful, and absolutely spotless. The waiters (all) and the bartenders (Marco and Manuel) are fantastic, and so-o-o friendly. Looking forward to next year. If we can even wait that long!

Wonderful staff. Resort beautifully maintained. No need to leave resort, everything is there - resturants,, market, pools and ocean.

royal treatmentPosted Mar 5, 2015
We love the beach, but there is plenty more to do. We ate many of our meals on the balcony, which felt private. There was enough room for five us in the two bedroom unit, with the kitchen, living room and full kitchen. The take out was a good value and great food.

Love that it's not all inclusive!Posted Mar 4, 2015
Pros: The ocean view can be seen from every room - the beach is better than any we have been on - and it's NOT ALL INCLUSIVE!
Cons: Attentiveness of staff to the customers - a better system for guests to get to the main road
Location: On the ocean - wonderful restaurants within walking or bus ride distance-shopping - Mayan Ruins close by - a short drive to Playa Del Carmen day trip
We like to stay here because we don't have to deal with all the crowds that the all inclusive hotels are hindered with - the staff is not as attentive this days as they use to be however, there again, the smaller crowds is worth it.

Good place to base out of in CancunPosted Mar 3, 2015
4 nights were spent while making various explorations into the Yucatan. The people staying here were mostly an older crowd, so the the place was pretty quiet, none of those obnoxious "party" shows that are common at other hotels. Everything worked in the room, it had a small fridge and microwave. When compared to other places I've stayed, the Royal Islander was trouble free and easy. A great beach as well.

Great hotel, but go elsewhere for food.Posted Mar 3, 2015
Pros: The location can't be beat.
Cons: The food was not good. We ordered hamburgers, and the ground meat was ground up super-fine, which caused us to dub it "mystery meat."
The beach is fabulous, and the pool is also terrific. Just know that if you stay in the hotel zone, it's not like really being in Mexico. The hotel zone is its own little world, which is probably what a lot of travelers are looking for. Also, if you're looking to actually swim, the ocean might be too rough for actual swimming on some days, because the hotel is on the ocean side. But the beautiful views took my breath away! Also, if you are directionally challenged, it's hard to find your way around this huge hotel. Anyone with Alzheimer's needs to stay away! They need to change the room numbers so they reflect what floor you're on. It's very confusing, although the staff are more than willing to help you find your way around. Overall, though, I'd definitely go back. I just would not eat any food in the hotel zone. We tried a nearby restaurant that, like the hotel, was also overpriced with very mediocre food.
