“'Seen better days'”

This is a well situated hotel for the attractions of Buxton, particularly the Opera House, but its own amenities were sadly lacking.It felt like it had not changed for half a century and the narrow corridors and large number of fire doors gave it a rabbit warren feel. Even worse the window ledge in the room was rotten - some basic maintenance is called for. Though the staff were welcoming, the place effectively closed down at 10.00 - no bar - even a bottle of water - for returning theatre goers! A plus point was the breakfast - a very good cooked breakfast. Overall a very tired feel - and not particularly good value for money.

“Sleepless Nights in Buxton”

The hotel was central for all amenities and provided a pleasant dining area and breakfast room. The food and table service was good. The big disappointment was the bedroom. It was in need of refurbishment - especialy a new bed! The matress and the frame were old and of poor quality and their use resulted in an extremely uncomfortable nights sleep. The floor lacked a carpet or rug and the view from the window was of the flat roof next door! The price of the room was not reflected in its quality.
