“Not Bad At All”

My experience was not the nightmare others have described in their reviews. The hotel is undergoing renovation which accounts for the debris in the common areas, however they make up for this by offering a low rate within walking distance to the French Quarter. My room was clean and comfortable with a hot shower. No frills, but a good deal for the price.

“Definitely not the Taj Mahal”

Let me start by saying that this hotel is definitely not the Taj Mahal, but if you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay that is near the French Quarter, this is it. Besides, if you're going to New Orleans, how much time do you intend to stay in your hotel. As for me, I'd rather be out sightseeing. To me, a hotel is a place to sleep and take a shower, and this hotel provided both at a great price. before I stayed here initially, I read the reviews of other travellers. Generally, they were all right on target. However, I suspect most of them were posted by people who expected this to be a Four Star hotel, which it isn't. The staff were exemplary. They did a great job, and my compliments. If there's something you don't have in your room, they will work hard to make it right. At least, that's been my experience. They have discontinued the comp breakfast, which was (from what I understand) a sweet roll and coffee. But there's a coffeemaker in your room, and if you run out, they can provide more. I highly recommend the Clover Grill at 900 Bourbon Street and Dumaine for breakfast. They're open 24 hours on weekends, and close a midnight during the week. As for transportation, the hotel is right on the Canal Street streetcar line. From there, you can go uptown to the Quarter, or connect to the St. Charles Street or Riverfront streetcars further down the line.

“Good for Mardi Gras on a Budget”

The hotel is still going through a lot of construction. I think it was hit pretty hard by Katrina. For the price of the hotel compared to others further down on Canal St. you can let a few things slide. I was there for Mardi Gras and all I really needed from a hotel was a place to crash. It served it's purpose so I was happy.

This hotel is not the best hotel i've ever stayed at, but i would recomend it for sure...!! The staff was very nice and friendly, the rooms were not bad but the hotel itself was kinda ugly. Perfect if you are trying to get a place just to sleep and take a shower, specialy if you are going with just a bunch of guys. If you are taking your girlfriend or wife, i'll sugest you stay somewhere else... But for me, it work great, i got a great deal. plus, its not far from Burbon st.

“Dont be Scared,,,”

I booked a room for me and a gal friend's vacation before reading all the reviews. On the drive to New Orleans I was basically having a panic attack over how scared I was of our soon to be room for 4 days because of the horror stories. Upon arrival I realized a lot of the reviewers were overly picky or just way too prissy. You get what you pay for. I saw absolutely no bugs. No rats. The shower had steaming hot water. The bathroom was clean. The sheets were clean. We had PLENTY of towels. Don't count on the free breakfast and just skip the coffee... The hallways are smoldering. The front desk was extremely nice. The hotel is in walking distance of everything you need to see. You can walk a block to hop on the street car or just hail a taxi from in front of the hotel. We were on high alert the entire time and careful of shady people downtown. But we saw no 'tent city' under the bridge and were not bothered by anyone. We kept up our do not disturb sign all weekend and house keeping never came in. The only loud and obnoxious people there turned up Saturday night and were hotel stayers as well. To stay in NOLA cheap, Canal St Hotel is a good bet. Dont expect luxury. But it's a great place to keep your things and rest up for checking out all the great sights to see. I will probably choose a different hotel closer to Bourbon next visit, but Canal will always be a back up.

I will say it wasn't the best place I've stayed but it was nice. They are doing renovations on the hotel but it wasn't a bother at all. The staff is excellent, very polite & willing to accomodate you in any way.

My family and I stayed for three nights. We did not have any problems. Rooms 429 and 430 were in great shape. They were clean as were the sheets. The "free" coffee consisted of enough for one. But the staff at the desk gave more as needed. Forget the continental breakfast. The pool was open and CLEAN. So was the pool area. As with most motel/hotels, there were loud people at night but not all hours of the night. We had only intended to stay in New Orleans two nights but had such a good time we stayed the extra night. My family, including two Grandson's had a good time. TV's had wireless remotes and plenty of channels, including 3 HBO. Street Cars do pass in front of the property but you have to go a couple of blocks to catch it. The cab fare from the Amtrak station was 16 dollars for the seven of us. You can order take out but for security reasons, the staff requested we come to the lobby to pick it up. All in all a good experience. The staff appeared to be really trying to repair any bad images. The property did not appear run down at all. There were no homeless people lying around the hallways either. The hallways were hot due to not being air conditioned but the air conditioners in our rooms would freeze you out. It is like anything in big cities, you must be aware of your surroundings at all times. It was that way every where we went. New Orleans has made amazing progress from what happened during Katrina. We will definitely go back again.

I absolutely loved this hotel. It was shifty and a little creepy and the emptied out pool was a lot of fun. We're not so into fancy stuff, but a nice adventure. I couldn't have found a better hotel to go to after a long night on Bourbon Street. If you're going to New Orleans and want a truly entertaining experience, stay in this hotel.
