“Economic safe place to stay”

The Continental Hostel is a very basic but clean place to stay. The value for the price is great! It only takes about 5 minutes to walk to the next subway station. As a woman traveling with my niece, we felt safe, even late at night! Great price and very friendly, knowledgeable people. The lockers in the basement added an extra benefit, which allowed us to leave luggage even after we checked out of the room! Great value.

It was better than I expected. You can't beat the price, and it was safe and clean. Very satisfied.

This hostel was really good for what we had paid. The sheets were changed quite everyday in 7 days, the people were welcoming and very helpful. We had to share the bathroom and everything was fine.The rooms were not really big but when you go to NYC, do you really need more than that?!There's so much more to do htan staying at your hostel! The subway is very close so it's really handy and you've got shops all round in the area if you need anything.

“Great Manhattan Hostel”

This was a leisure trip to watch a game at Yankees Stadium before they tear it down and to see New York City. This was my first visit to NYC and I knew I would be sightseeing all day and would only need a place to sleep. The Continental Hostel is located just two blocks from a Subway stop, and is about a 4-5 minute walk to Central Park. The neighborhood feels very safe and there are several places near to eat and shop. The room is tiny, only 98 sq. ft. But we didn't need much. The beds were comfortable enough and the sheets were clean. There was no air conditioner and the room did get a little stuffy even with the window open, but wasn't too bad. The shared bathroom was surprisingly clean. I took some sandals to wear in the shower and didn't even wear them because of how clean the shower tub was. I bet I saw the cleaning staff every time I was in the stairways. I give an A+ on cleanliness. I would definitely recommend the Continental Hostel to anyone looking for an inexpensive place to stay with not a lot of amenities or extras. It was perfect for two guys to stay at who left their wives at home with the kids.

“Much better than expected”

After reading all the reviews with rat sightings and bugs I didn't know what to expect. I am very pleased to say - I saw no bugs or rats - other than outside. I rented a dormitory bunk but never had to share a room. Everyone there was really cool - staff and guests. I usually retired back to the hotel at 2 am and ended staying up until 5-530 in the morning hanging out and drinking with other hostelers. Than out the door at 8. Probably best for younger travelers but overall for the price I think anyone would be satisfied.

“Would definately stay again”

A very hip place to stay in the city. Rooms were not to small, air conditioning worked great. Really cool game room. Shared bathrooms not a problem at all. 4 rooms to a bathroom...never had to wait and they were clean. Great location!! 2 blocks from the subway. If you are looking for a 4 star hotel this is not the place but if you are looking for a good price in a good location this is the place. Great for younger crowd. Probably wouldn't stay here if you have young children. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

This is the best place to stay in New York. The Upper West Side location of the hotel is very convenient and the subway is two blocks away. The rooms are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff is very helpful. I felt very welcomed during my stay.

“Great little Hostel”

I had booked before I read the reviews so I was a little apprehensive, fearing some of the things others had said about the place. The Continental consists of two buildings, side by side, and the music (and apparently the usual loud activity) is in the main lobby, where the (friendly) receptionist resides. We checked in quickly with no problems, and found that our room was in the building next door. Awaiting us was a clean room with a working TV & plenty of electrical outlets & heat. The bathroom- which was always clean- was immediately next door but there was more than one in our suite- our neighbors were quiet. We asked for extra towels & got them. We felt safe because there was someone watching the lobby at all hours. Check out was a breeze. Altogether no problems whatsoever. If you're looking for a real hotel room with phones & room service- go someplace else, but for a hostel- and I've been in a few- this was a terrific deal for the best price in NYC in December. I would go back there again. If you book here I would suggest that you call to confirm your reservation a few days in advance & if you don't like noise, ask to be put in the quiet section of the hostel, next door.

Room was very basic but when comparing this to other hotels it was way out in front on price!! People around the hostel were very friendly!! Would definitely go back!!
