“Perfect for me”

If I could repeat this hotel wherever I go I would be a much happier traveler. I enjoyed the upmarket feel, without the staff being in any way snooty. On the contrary they were all extremely friendly and helpful. I felt a bit more at home with the hotel not being sparklingly new. It literally felt more like my home - a little worn, without being tired, and warm and comfortable. Although I was traveling on my own I know my family would have enjoyed staying here too. I probably would have been dragged into the pool. I ate on my own in the restaurant, which was a bit empty. The service and food were both great. On my way out I noticed a number of people eating on their own in the bar area, which would have been more pleasant.

“Decent hotel in a good location”

The Thistle is a decent hotel, with average bedrooms, fine for a one night business stop over. There can be some noise from the nearby M6 so make sure you ask for a room away from the motorway if that is going to bother you. Breakfast was fine. The only bugbear is that I was given a first floor room and not told on check in that there was no lift so ended up lugging a heavy suitcase upstairs.

“Good Standard 4* Hotel”

We booked the Hotel for 1 night as we were going to Haydock Races to see a Simply Red Concert. We couldn't complain about anything, the meet and greet was efficient and friendly and the room very clean and of a good size. If we were being really picky, the bathroom could have done with a refurbishment. When we returned from the concert, the lounge bar was very busy with wedding guests and other guests, although it was only 11.30pm, we were unable to get a coffee as they were too busy? and we then waited 20 minutes to be served for a drink. There seemed very few staff on duty. However, overall the standard of the Hotel was good. It did however, take us a good 25 minutes to walk to Haydock Races and we were led to believe it would only take 5-10 minutes!
