Freeport
The name “Freeport” refers both to the city and the free-trade zone surrounding it. On Grand Bahama Island, approximately 100 miles from Fort Lauderdale, FL, the city is the Bahamas’ second largest. In addition to a cruise ship terminal, it is home to the island’s commercial ship harbor and main airport. The International Bazaar near downtown is a popular shopping venue for tourists.

Lucaya
A seaside suburb of Freeport and the area’s center for tourism, Lucaya is home to several large hotels and beautiful beaches. Live musical performances occur regularly in Count Basie Square, and fishing-, snorkeling-, and sight-seeing cruises depart from Bell Channel Harbour daily. As part of the Freeport free-trade zone, Port Lucaya serves as a huge international duty-free market.

West End
West End is the oldest city on Grand Bahama and lies at the island’s western tip, about 25 miles from Freeport and 60 miles from the U.S. coast. The city served as a rum-running port during U.S. Prohibition and Al Capone is rumored to have done business here. Beginning in 2001, the city has seen significant and ongoing construction, including a new marina village and golf course just outside town.
