Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo (and vicinity) hotels

Ixtapa
The modern resort town of Ixtapa lies about 5 km (3 mi) north of Zihuatanejo. Funded by the National Tourism Development Fund, Ixtapa was built from the ground up, with construction beginning in 1968. Set on a wide bay, the city’s 2-mile beachfront is lined with high-rise hotels, many from well-known chains. The city has several colonial- and modern-style malls connected by plazas and gardens.

Zihuatanejo
On the Pacific Coast of Guerrero, Mexico, the city of Zihuatanejo has worked hard to retain its “village” look and feel. Many downtown streets are still paved with cobblestones, and zoning laws prohibit buildings over 4 stories. A brick-paved beachfront promenade runs along Playa La Madera and Playa Principal to the pier, and all beaches along the bay are safe for swimming.
