Port Isabel
Since its founding in 1554, Port Isabel’s fate has been tied to the sea. That year, three Spanish galleons sank near the city. Its riches are displayed at the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, part of Port Isabel’s museum complex. This attraction includes the Port Isabel Lighthouse, a beacon that has guided ships since 1852. Today, tourist boats depart Port Isabel to explore the coast’s wildlife.

South Padre Island
South Padre Island is a laid-back haven for sun worshippers, from beer-swilling college kids to snowbirds seeking relief from the chill. Though its beaches are among Texas’ most popular, the island offers plenty of seclusion with 34 miles of seashore. Padre Boulevard is the island’s main road and nightlife hub. Other highlights include Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark and dolphin watching.
