Average hotel at a good price

If life you get what you pay for. I received a little more but knew what to expect before arriving. First, the Athens is average. Room was clean enough, the air conditioning worked (important for Houston), the kitchen in room could be useful if you wanted it (I only made tea), the WiFi did not work for the first two days of being here (granted it was the weekend and a service call was placed for Monday - fixed on Monday), and in downtown for a good price (4 blocks from convention center, House of Blues, and an excellent high quality grocery store). I do not LIVE IN my hotel room when I travel so the hotel was acceptable for sleeping and cleaning up. If you are traveling to Houston to live in this hotel then your comforts may be different than mine. I will stay here again if coming to a meeting at the convention center because you cannot beat the price.

This place is cheap for a reason. Expedia shouldn't count this hotel in the same category with the other establishments downtown.

its a great family hotel. it had no elevator.

Pros: I liked its character of the hotel. it reminded me of an older time in houston.
Cons: the least favorite was the fact of not having an elevator but we had a good workout on the stairs. it was not a problem for us.
Location: the location was great for out agenda. it was downtown. it was the location that we needed.
well not knowing what to expect;i was waiting for the worst but it was a supurb hotel for me and my sister and her girl friend. we had no problem for our stay. the manager and staff were great and helpful in giving us directions to the city. it was the perfect place for our stay in houston. i do plan to come again. expedia did a good job in getting us here too. i do plan to come back to the same place for our stay in the near future.

It is centrally located and was the only available place for the dates I wanted. Had no choice but to take what was left/available.

Dissapointed

Location: Good
When I booked the three rooms I was given 1 rate for 1 room and a higher rate for the other 3 rooms. The main door to the hotel remains locked to keep people from walking in off the street implying an unsafe environment. For ice, there were 3 ice trays in the ice box. The breakfast the next morning was nothing to tell your family.

Location: Decent location suspicious neighborhood
Hotel staff would not let us in the hotel until we explained to them twice we had a reservation. The room we were initially given had not been clean at all the bed was a mess and there were dirty dishes on the table. Parking is on the street and metered so you have to pay for parking! This hotel is extremely overpriced for the quality or lack there of. In conclusion we will not be returning to this particular hotel.

Ok for the price

Pros: Room was clean
Cons: The staff had no knowledge of the city. They repeatedly gave wrong directions. They had no city maps at the counter.
Location: was just fine
The Hotel was not bad for the price. The rooms were clean but the hallways were not. Breakfast was definitely poor. I would not recommend to out of state or international travelers

The Hotel is convenient located for conference center, but service is poor, reception and frontdoor close at 10 pm, cleaning and maintainance is poor.

I was a little scared walking up to the hotel with construction beside the hotel. It might have been even part of the same building but it was a non issue. The lobby was nice but they could organize there office with more modern looking equipment that could have made the check in quicker. Walking up the stairs to the room was a pleasant surprise with nice pictures, decorations & flowers. Upon entering the room, everything was also in order and nicely decorated. There was a problem with the electrical in the room they were going to give me but realized it when I showed up. They just gave me a different room so no big deal. They sprinted to turn on the air conditioner.

The main problem I had with the hotel was the parking. Their website stated valet parking but that did not exist. Also they advertised a gym, which they had but it only had two pieces of equipment and it was located in a room the size of a closet. The room was comfortable with stove, microwave and full size refrigerator.
