Juggling too much and inattention to guests

Posted Jul 22, 2015
Pros: The room was large and the mattress comfortable. The valets were nice.
Cons: Clean the place up. Get more elevators, - Properly plan and accomodate your guests.
Location: Astros, downtown events.
We trek to Houston annually to attend Astros games. We have stayed at the Magnolia for several years. At check in the desk staff was outright snarky. Eating breakfast was a tussel. There was no seating available. The toaster didn't toast. The arrangement was poorly planned. We did not even attempt breakfast the second morning. If Holiday Inn can do it better then you need some new management. There were three weddings and a 50th wedding party on Saturday night in addition to the folks staying in the hotel who were attending the Astros game. There were too many bodies in the hotel for the 4 tiny elevators to accomodate the guests. This was made more disasterous when the fire alarmed was pulled at 11 p.m. and the guests were ushered outside. The hotel was dirty. We stayed on the 6th floor and liquid had dried on the granite near the elevators. The carpet needs cleaning - everywhere. The hotel seemed low rent at without an accomodating low price.

Great option when visiting the ballpark!

Posted Jul 21, 2015
We've stayed here before so we had an idea of what to expect. Unfortunately this same weekend there were 4 events at the hotel(weddings/parties) which made things pretty chaotic. Elevators, they took forever. Valet was slammed Sunday morning as expected. Breakfast was so-so. Not a tons of options, and what southern hotel doesn't have biscuits & gravy? The 'mini bar' in our was empty and didn't work at all. The room was comfortable, loved the bathroom and deep tub. Location is great, with easy access. Will probably stay again.

Is new management asleep at the wheel?

Posted Jul 20, 2015
This is a fantastic hotel. I have stayed here many times, but my most recent visit (July 2015) was a disappointment. The Front Desk staff did not understand how to use proper grammar. There was crud stuck in the corners of the elevators. The mini-frig was disgusting. The bacon at the (normally wonderful) breakfast buffet was floating is a sea of oil. A great hotel, but management needs to step up their game.

Great experience but dining is pricey...

Posted Jul 13, 2015
Cons: Inform customers that the free internet is for one device only.
Location: Several small restaurants nearby.
Room was beautiful, bathroom was large, staff was friendly. Son loved the free cookies in the evening, I enjoyed the free glass of wine at 5:30. Breakfast was great as well. The downside was that the hotel restaurant was extremely expensive, surprisingly so because the menu that Magnolia has posted on-line is not the current menu. The current menu is limited in its offerings and the prices are twice as expensive as the menu posted online. A dinner for two is easily 60 to 70 dollars, without any drinks. However, there is a chipolte and other small restaurants within walking distance and they will shuttle you to a grocery store (although there is not an in-room fridge, I think you need to rent it). Internet is free for one device but they don't tell you that, so I hooked up the internet for my phone and then had to pay to hook up the laptop. Overall, however, it was a great hotel in a great location.

Nice Hotel Close to Minute Maid Ballpark

Posted Jul 12, 2015
Roof top pool offers excellent views of downtown Houston and Minute Maid. The staff was pleasant and professional. Our room was spacious and very clean. We will definitely stay at the Magnolia again.

Overall good w/ a few exceptions

Posted Jul 12, 2015
Pros: Good location. Nice accomodations. Good hotel shuttle. Good price.
Cons: execution of the happy hour and the free morning breakfast could both be improved
Location: perfect location for a concert we went to at the Toyota Center
Check in lady balked at giving me copy of paper she had me sign. Free drinks at evening happy hour and free breakfast in the morning were less than acceptable. Accommodations were fine. Hotel shuttle to and from the Toyota Center for a concert was excellent.

Downtown Houston

Nice and very comfortable. Go to breakfast early; there were a lot of people and the free breakfast got slim.

Close to Alamo & Riverwalk

Posted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: Listed above.
Location: Houston, TX, Alamo, Riverwalk, theaters
Overall great hotel, staff super helpful. A few suggestions, with water conservation measures, rooms need more place to hang wet towels, facecloths. Refrigerators should be working in rooms, especially in summer. Makeup mirrors are great, when working. Lighting in bathrooms, dim. Hotel lobby area is also very dark, hard to adjust your focus when coming in from outside. Very clean and super helpful staff.
