Lovely Amenities, Terrible Mattresses

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: Food, many amenities - swimming, tennis, golf. Fabulous swimming area. Easy to get around a large property with on call staff-driven golf carts.
Cons: Mattresses!
Location: Woodlands Mall nearby with water taxi, shopping, restaurants. Also the Marketplace with shopping, grocery store, and picture theater. Outdoor theater.
Wonderful food and staff, fabulous swimming area with water slides for the kids. Lots of great activities; they loved it. Don't stay in the older rooms; they need to be bulldozed and the mattresses should be replaced. Hotel is under renovation, and the new areas must be nice. Stay in one of them.

Disappointing

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: The room was spacious.
Cons: The hotel staff at reception wasn't welcoming. No explanation of any of the facilities was given. We didn't feel welcome or appreciated as guests.
Location: Good for golfers and families with small children.
Not thrilled with this hotel. Our room was spacious but in need of updating. We lived in the "Birch" house which was a bit remote but within easy walking-distance to the main pool area. The main pool area appears to be too small for the amount of rooms and they are adding more rooms. The main pool area is also feeling very enclosed with buildings encircling it. Very stuffy and suffocating with no breeze. The hotel room had no fridge or microwave but on our last day we asked where we could microwave something and a microwave was brought to our room. Would have been nice to know about this option earlier as one of my children has allergies. Lots of construction going on everywhere which would have been nice to know about before arriving. The staff was not welcoming during our check-in process. None of the facilities onsite were mentioned or explained to us. The roll-away bed was totally uncomfortable. Not possible to sleep on it at all. We had to move the mattress to the floor and make it more comfortable with some of the existing bedding in the room. To charge for something like this is really not acceptable. Will not stay here again.

Great for kids and adults

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: The amazing pools, the dining room, and professional staff.
Cons: I think they should rehab the old section of the hotel. It sorely needs it.
Location: We loved the location because the shopping was just a short drive away. Pretty near perfect.
I am giving an excellent mainly because it ended up well BUT, the hotel is under a major renovation which we didn't know. This wasn't a problem EXCEPT, we picked this hotel because of the website pics of the rooms and pool. The pool was beyond amazing. Like a mini water park. But the rooms we were taken too were in the really old building. It was clean but the musty smell and moldy odor were overwhelming and the website pic of the rooms were apparently the new part of the hotel. If I had seen the old part pics, I wouldn't have booked there. I asked to change rooms to the new section and the staff was very professional and got it handled immediately. I was very impressed with the staff. We loved the new section so the rest of our stay was wonderful. The hotel is definitely great in the customer service department. I have absolutely no complaints except the first room. The hotel is so spread out that you need to take a golf cart everywhere which is an extra treat for the kids. We took the cart everywhere and they were always prompt and the staff very friendly. We also enjoyed the restaurant. I will definitely go back again.

Needs update but still pricey

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Hotel rooms are old inside and out. Hotel price was too high for the toom quality. No fridge nor safe in room. Plastic glasses in bathroom. Room looked clean though just old.

A big disappointment

Posted Jul 5, 2014
Bad room given.. not near the pool. I was told since I booked through expedia thats why I got that room. So they moved us to a different room with one king bed and brought in two cots. All the staff ever could answer questions and did a poor job at letting us know about where we could find things and showing us around. I felt like we had to fin for ourselves the whole time.

Resort has not been maintained

Posted Jun 20, 2014
Plumber had to come twice to fix commode, dead bugs, smudges all over doors, inside and out. Apparently with new construction all has gone downhill in the rest of resort.

Not impressed at all

Posted Jun 18, 2014
When we arrived I found that the room booked on Expedia was not the same one that was in the pictures. We were in this out of dated jr. suite that looked as if it was a bunch of old apartment complexes. No where near the pool, or people for that matter! When we went for dinner I asked if we could change closer to the pool so my daughter could walk out and not have to call someone to get us or drive over there. The guy was put out that we wanted to change. Told us it would be $40 more/night. Fine, it's worth her safety and the other room was sad, dark and old and dingy anyway. We took bottom floor. Was supposed to be king with pullout. It was king with a chair. I called for a cot. Girl wasnt friendly either. Extra $25 a night. Well, I needed it'd once the sofa pullout wasn't there. Didn't show up for over an hour so called back. The guy I spoke with was apologetic and got one over. We ordered room service after that. Took forever. I asked for the chips and salsa and chopped guacamole. They didn't bring the chips so I called back. Took another 30 min. Next day, we needed to be gone to meeting by 7 am. Valet said they would be there at 7. They were not. Had to talk to guy cleaning the pool that had Wilkie talkie to get office to send someone pronto. Needless to say we were off to a late start. Had to pay $20 extra a day too just to use the pool. I've never had to pay to use a "resort" pool. I will not return there again. Rude front staff and ridiculous fees for things.

As you may have noticed we're currently undergoing a $60 million renovation which will include 184 new sleeping rooms and updates to our existing Fairway Pines accommodations. The Forest Lake lodges will no longer be available at the end of this year. You recommend us now, but just wait until all the renovations are complete this fall! Hope to see you again soon. Wait for Renovations to be Completed

Posted May 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
The Woodlands Resort is made up of a series of complexes in a wooded setting. The rooms are OLD, outdated, and extremely worn. It doesn't appear that the carpet, couches, etc have been updated in the last 20 years (and I later found out that they won't be, as they are tearing down the complexes once the new resort and conference center is complete). The grounds are well maintained, and the staff all very friendly, however I would not recommend staying here until all the renovations are done.
