"Comfortable hotel"
Extremely comfortable rooms with a nice Japanese touch. Loved the communal massage chairs. Short walk to Suidobashi Station which is great for any JR pass holders. An easy 5 mins train ride to Akihabara. Very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

"Close to transport and decent breakfast"
I stayed here for a week as a base for exploring Tokyo. It was a good location - Suidobashi isn't a hotspot for tourists, and the hotel itself is set a block back from a main road, so it was fairly quiet. But it's 5 minutes walk to the JR station, and across the river is the subway station, so it's great for getting around Tokyo. The room itself was very nice. It was adequate size; other travelers might comment on how small it is but this is typical of anywhere in Japan. I was traveling by myself so it was no problem. The room had a large single bed, and a washer-dryer with English instructions (washing powder can be bought in single serves from reception). There is a small fridge in the room but I think it only works when the room is powered - ie your room key is plugged in. So it will refrigerate overnight but not while you're out during the day. The staff spoke good English. The room included buffet breakfast, which was pretty good compared to most Japanese hotels: toast, juice, tea & coffee, a salad, and a rotating hot food menu which included fried rice, scrambled eggs, hamburger steaks in sauce, and curry chicken. The room included free wifi which was reliable and worked well.

"Good location"
The hotel was quite close to the Ikebukoro station and shopping areas. It was a little hard to find at first - no fault of the hotel though. Staff were very helpful. The rooms felt a bit small, but then I am 6'2" in height. They were perfectly acceptable rooms and we both enjoyed our stay.

"Great base from which to explore Tokyo"
This hotel is very conveniently placed barely two minutes walk from exit A5 of Jimbocho metro station, and the area is full of excellent restaurants and convenience stores, and a twenty-four hour internet cafe, and it's even just a half hour walk from the Imperial Palace, so it's a great base from which to explore Tokyo. The room and hotel were very clean. We had a smoking room, so it smelt of cigarette smoke, but with a short time of the air conditioning on, or the window open, you soon stopped noticing it. The room was also small, and the window had frosted glass so there was no view out of our room... of the wall the hotel is built right next to! I didn't mind - it's a Tokyo thing. I didn't ever have the hotel breakfast so I can't comment on that (but if you don't like it, like I say you're surrounded by great restaurants and stores). The staff didn't speak much English, but even tourism office staff in Japan won't speak English, so you shouldn't rely on that if you intend to travel to Japan, however they were extremely helpful, and friendly. I asked them where the nearest kaiten sushi place was, and they looked up the internet, a phone book, rang a friend and even printed and showed me on a map. Unfortunately Tokyo addresses are notoriously difficult for even Tokyoites to decipher, so maps rarely help, but the staff were very helpful and pleasant, even down to cleaners wishing you a nice day as you stroll out. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay in it again.

"Central, and well worth the price!"
Considering the location of the Youth Center, and its low price- I was initially rather apprehensive about how it would turn out. For a price like that, I was expecting to end up sleeping in a room that was comparable to a jail cell. However, I was incredibly surprised by what the hotel offered. The rooms are small and, as many have commented, outdated, but for a place to just stay whilst exploring Tokyo and the surrounding areas- it is fantastic. The rooms came with free wifi (just ask the desk for the password), TV and aircon- which was a much needed thing in the middle of a Tokyo summer. The desk is open 24/7, which meant there was no pressure for me to rush back from my activities around Tokyo, and the short distance from the station (which is only a fews stops away from Tokyo station, Akihabara and Ueno) made it incredibly well situated. I'd definitely recommend the YMCA youth center to people who are wanting to make the most of Tokyo, but not have to drop a lot of money on accommodation.
