This is the second time staying here and I will still recommend it to anybody going to Tokyo. First and foremost is the location. This makes everything so much easier with Ikebukuro station 2 minutes walk away from the Metropolitan Entrance of Metropolitan Plaza. There's unlimited eateries you can explore around this area too. Each of the large department stores like Tobu, Seibu and Lumine has a few floors of restaurants concentrated together so you will be spoilt for choice.
The hotel staff's English is quite good (as good as Japan goes) and are very helpful for what questions we had. My friend tried the bar however, and found it expensive. Given that you can easily go some place else though, the expensive facilities inside the hotels didn't really bother us since we don't really spend time holed up in hotels and prefer exploring.
We specifically requested no smoking at the time of booking on Expedia. Whether this helped with ensuring the separation, I cant be sure but this time we didn't experience any smoke leaking in from airducts. So maybe they have improved the no smoking for international guests.
Ikebukuro is not a bad area to stay in for the lazy days. It is not as busy as Shinjuku but it has it's own attractions like Sunshine City which has Namja town inside. The shopping inside Sunshine City is also more reasonable and cheaper than most other places I found. Its also popular with anime fans for the Otome Road and J-World inside Sunshine.

Surprisingly close to the main hub in Ikebukuro! Only a few minute walk from the main Ikebukuro JR station. Ark Hotel is located directly across the street from Sunshine City - very accessible!
Hotel is small - typical of any other Japanese budget hotels. Facilities & amenities adequate (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, hair dryer). Also, free LAN & wireless internet!!!

Room cleaned everyday, less than 10 minute walk from the train station. 7/11 just outside the hotel. A little noisy from being close to the hospital with sirens, excellent position for tourists. Microwave on 5th floor and small fridge included in room.

This hotel is close to Prince Sunshine Hotel. If you have big and heavy luggage that you want to take the Limousine bus from Narita or Haneda airport, this is a cheap hotel you want to check in. Get off at Prince Sunshine Hotel, and walk just a couple of blocks from Prince Sunshine Hotel, you will arrive at this hotel. Hotel is small, and service is very limited. I guess that's why the room rate is cheap. Nevertheless, you get everything in your room, including an electric stove and a microwave! The bed is comfy. Since I took an one-week language course in Tokyo, this hotel provides me with comfortable conditions to study and complete my homework in the room everyday.

Last minute trip to Tokyo with my girlfriend. The price was fair, and the convenience is great. 3-5 minutes walk to the Ikebukuro rail/subway stations along the main road (Meiji Dori). 5-10 minute walk to the Sunshine City shopping mall, and of course being in Ikebukuro you are surrounded by Electronics department stores and whatnot.
The room itself was great. It was clean, quiet and comfortable with every amenity we needed readily available. A bit small in terms of western standards but very respectable for a budget hotel in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The washroom may be an issue for some taller folks as it is on a raised platform (6'0"+ people would have problems fitting).
Complimentary breakfast at the Denny's attached to the hotel was included in our rate, as well as Wi-Fi. Staff were knowledgeable and spoke good English. I would definitely return again for a future stay if I fancy staying in Ikebukuro again.

The city’s largest, fastest, and biggest call this neighborhood home. In addition to the world’s largest automobile showroom (Toyota Amlux), it boasts the fastest escalator (at the Tokyo Metropolitan Building Art Space) and two of the world’s largest department stores. A 10-hectare garden, one of Tokyo’s best, is just three subway stops from here.
