While it may be a temptation to just chill out while holidaying in Ikizdere, keep in mind that the surrounding region's many scenic wonders lie just beyond your doorstep. If you're keen to explore more of the region, you'll find Of, 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the southeast, and Camburnu 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the southeast.
Organise your transportation and head to Trabzon, a major city for the region, located about 45 miles (72 kilometers) from Ikizdere. The city has plenty of visitor attractions, such as Ataturk's Mansion, Karadeniz Technical University and Kaymakli Monastery. Trabzon Museum, Sumela Monastery and Hagia Sophia are a number of other interesting attractions worth visiting for those who find themselves with time to spare.
Trying local food is one of the keys to getting to know the area in which you are traveling. So be sure to spend time in some of the region's cafés and restaurants. Typical meals include karalahana vurması (bean and kale soup) and çumur (corn tortillas), but naturally there are many other Rize (province) meal options for real food lovers. Finish off with enişte lokumu (uncle’s delight), a popular dessert.
Before you return to the comforts of home, you'll be bidding Ikizdere a sad Hoşçakal (farewell).
