Fairly average.

Cobwebs from top of four poster bed to wall-mounted lamp, mattress quite thin and soft. Greasy bowls present at breakfast in addition to water-drenched poached egg which almost literally flooded my plate. Bacon nice, though. No-one around to check us out after breakfast.

A friendly country experience.

Posted Sep 4, 2013
Pros: The country atmosphere and the friendliness of the locals.
Location: Lcated in a pretty village with local walks.
Staff were very friendly & helpful. We enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable with all amenities and lots of space. The only problem was that we stayed on a Monday night when the chef had his day off. We had been looking forward to a good pub meal. In spite of this, the staff made sure we were provided with a meal.

We stayed on our way to Cornwall having visited the pub a few years ago for a drink. The locals made us very welcome from the minute we got there. Food was excellent room just right clean and comfortable. Breakfast again was really good and would recommend the duke of york every time.

Good Pub Accommodation & Food

Posted Jul 25, 2013
We stayed at the Duke of York for one night. There are a small number of good sized rooms located in small buildings at the rear of the hotel. We found the rooms of a good size and everything that we needed was provided. The room was in good condition and very clean. Good quality toiletries and plenty for tea & coffee were provided too. There was a good choice of pub food that could be served in the restaurant or the bar depending on individual preference, and at reasonable prices. The included breakfast was very good. The owner and staff were all very friendly and service was great. We would definitely stay there again.

Not to be missed

The guest suites at the pub are superbly spacious with en-suites and plenty of tea/coffe etc. You are given the sense of your own private space with the comfort of the adjoining pub with friendly locals and professional staff, the food was cooked to order with a varied menu that obviously caters for all tastes and a healthy plateful.

Nice but noisy

We liked everything about the inn and the room, it was clean friendly and comfortable however the inn has a very lively pub inside it and people walk past the rooms to get to the car park so we were kept awake until 3am with drunken people walking past talking loudly. We wouldn't go back, we'll at least not on a weekend.

A real pub in a real village

Posted Oct 8, 2012
Pros: The atmosphere in the evening.
Cons: Nothing unfavourable to say.
Location: Village centre though the village is mostly along one road. Attractive buildings and friendly people.
A real pub in a real village. Clearly a place for the locals to meet, but they make you part of their community very quickly, if you want to join in. A fairly large pub with a main bar, a couple of smaller areas, and a restaurant area. Dog as well as people friendly. Accomodation is in a new block out the back, fairly basic but has all you need. Good range of real ales and very good food. Certainly somewhere we would return to if in the area.
