“Ascot Park Hotel Experience”

Well appointed attractive hotel set on the edge of town. Staff were extremely helpful - perhaps the best we have come across in our travels. However the hotel was let down by poor food served in restaurant. We complained about the poor quality of one evening meal served in their restaurant. Even after a second attempt they could still not get it right - the food was virtually inedible and tasted like cardboard! To their credit they apologised profusely and the following evening they redeemed themselves by providing an excellent free dinner and bottle of wine of our choice which resolved the matter.

“Archaic”

We had a Motel, we saw pictures they looked great but on arrival were disappointed, next to busy road and railway line, very noisy. The fridge had no drip tray under icebox and it dripped all over our food and smelt. The fridge was so old they probably can't get a tray anymore. So I had to keep mopping up water from bottom of fridge. Stayed 2 nights, our worst accomodation as we did the whole south-island.Told cleaner about tray said maybe they had one laying around. Never saw it.
