This building is magnificent beautifu lly built and restored. Clean warm comfortable hotel, spacious room, lovely ensuite, plenty towels. There is a fridge which came in very handy and appreciated. The staff member was helpfull and friendly, we felt very looked after. Happy to come back again.
45th Wedding Anniversary and back to home town for old times sake. The Managers made us very welcome and had good recommendations for eating out on Saturday night when the restaurant is not open.
Very friendly and hospitable atmosphere. As hotels go it’s one of my favourite since I came to New Zealand. Less stuffy and conservative and more relaxing and homely nearly. It’s a genuine Victorian building and has been lovingly kept and restored as it was originally intended. There are bedrooms on the ground floor to accommdate wheelchair users.
The owners Rose and Tom are very friendly and offer tips on local spots to visit. The hot breakfast they offer in the morning is delicious and good quality. I’d go back again for the breakfast alone. :-)
Parking is free in allocated spots in the multi storey car park next door.
Overly friendly bordering on slightly intrusive hosts. Dinner was not impressive. Located opposite an unused railway. Well furnished and extremely clean.
Hosts Tom and Rose make staying here such an enjoyable experience. Drinks and dinner in the private bar and restaurant were delicious and relaxing. Nothing was too much trouble. Would return any time.
Victoria Railway is a hotel with soul. Tom and Rose have created a warm, welcoming establishment with the delights of a bye-gone era and the comforts of today. And the salmon and cod dish is a must have.
Brilliant. Great old style hotel but with modern rooms. Managers knew the history of the hotel and their knowledge of the local attractions was also top notch. The dining options and bar were welcomed after a long day travelling and sightseeing with both managers having time for a talk and passing on recommendations for a more scenic drive back to Dunedin.

Thank you for taking time to review your stay. We share your love of the building. Parking is currently under review and improving by the day.
Close to amenities eg: RSA, restauraunts etc......
Quite a nice trip down memory land growing up and always loved the picutre/paintings of old nostalgia in Grandparents home
Great value for money - English breakfast is at the top of our list ( real sausages cooked the real way - not dropped into fat)
Tom and Lorraine very nice couple and welcoming from the start - would definitely stay there again
What a neat place to stay at, has all the feel of yesterday with today's comfort. And really neat owners made you feel welcome after a long day of travel.
Easy to locate (well, GPS had no difficulty!) located on a fairly busy road close to the Centre of Town. It's the character which is outstanding in a town with lots of 'art deco' properties: this is firmly Victorian! The former 'Railway Hotel' although the passenger train service has long gone! The rail freight yard IS still across the road, so you don't choose the location for the scenery!!
