Dissappointing StayPosted Dec 6, 2013
Pros: The restaurant.
Cons: Cleanliness of the room, the front desk booking.
The hotel lobby was great along with Minervas the Bar and Restaurant. My room on my first stay was average at best. My 2nd and 3rd stays required and upgrade in service. The bed did not get made up daily, shampoo and conditioner not replenished, never vacuumed, and my bathroom ceiling had mildew along with the bottom of the bathtub was stained from a previous matting. I would recommend staying at the Americinn or the Ramada if you have to stay in the Spirit Lake area and eat at Minervas. Also on my 2nd and 3rd stays they did not have my room booked correct. The one instance they could not find the booking at all, and the other they had me booked for 2 rooms instead of one for more nights than I had reserved.

Nice hotel and decent location.Posted Sep 5, 2013
Pros: The room itself.
Cons: Dirty rugs and ambiance
Location: OK but too many resort businesses were closed on Labor Day. No biking, no horseback riding, etc
We didn't particularly like the ambiance and we definitely didn't like the breakfast. No nutritious food. We would probably try a different hotel.

Not what we expected for the moneyPosted Sep 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
We were disappointed in this hotel. We travel a lot, and this hotel does not measure up to the number of stars it has received, nor the money we paid.

They listened to my complaint & took care of it.Posted Aug 31, 2013
Pros: The staff & the comfort of the room.
Cons: The free breakfast. It was very restricted in items offered. For a more expensive hotel, we expected better.
Location: We chose it to visit friends in the area. Okoboji, IA has the lake & Arnolds Park & other things for summer recreation.
I'm hyper-sensitive to smells, odors, & any thing airborne. After checking in, I noticed a strong odor centered around the bathroom area. I reported it right away, saying I didn't know if it was the cleaning products or a deodorizing spray (I saw no automatic deodorizers in the room). They told me it was a deodorizing spray used after cleaning the bathroom. They contacted the cleaning staff so that it was not used in our room during our stay. Most people would have thought the smell was pleasant but for me it triggered severe head pain. They were so nice & prompt about fixing my problem. I really appreciated it.

Ok, but would not be my first choice.Posted Aug 28, 2013
Looks much better on the website than in person. Rehabed older property that needs a lot of work to really bring it into competition with current hotels. Toilet needed completely reset and the seat tightened. No restaurant, skimpy "continental" breakfast. Front desk was nice upon arrival and a different staff member was indifferent to my departure.

not as clean as I'd likePosted Aug 20, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is a convenient location, however the overall sense of this hotel is that it is in need of updating, renovations and cleaning! Our bathroom ceiling was covered with mildew and the room smelled. Housekeeping didn't come at all our first day and did a poor job the second day - just pulling up the sheets, not touching the bottom sheet at all. Our room faced Hwy 71 and was noisy. The first morning we woke and went to open our sliding glass door and realized that it was unlocked with the security bar not engaged either. Yikes!

Overpriced for the facility.Posted Aug 13, 2013
Location: We attended a wedding.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, during our entire stay the "hotel rooms" section of the hotel had a VERY unpleasant odor. Carpeting was very worn and stained. Tiles missing on the ceiling. It rained and the ceiling in the hallway was leaking in several places. Continental breakfast was nice... fresh fruit, cereals, waffles, etc.
