anniversary stayPosted Nov 4, 2013
Pros: the decor and staff
Cons: the beds
Location: lovely location, not far from pubs and sea and godshill village with a goos restaurant and pub
the hotel was nice and a good breakfast but the room my daughter was in needs a new bed as it was very creaky and kept her awake. For the money, you expect better. this was booked for her anniversary. The hotel has very nice decor.

Oldie but a GoodiePosted Sep 13, 2013
Pros: The country feel
Cons: Dinner at the hotel, but they are working on that I know...
Location: Plenty to do on he Isle of Wight
Great place to stay especially after a long drive. I was pleased to see great wifi Internet service it allowed me to catch up with friends online. I also appreciated the creaky floorboards on the staircase, made you realise the age of the property, yet it was only creaky on the stairs and not everywhere you walked. Well maintained gardens and friendly staff.

good staff tired hotelPosted Aug 20, 2013
Pros: The staff were charming and helpful. The room could have been lovely with some updating and the breakfast couldn't have been better.
Cons: The room and particularly the bathroom needs updating - there is a difference between shabby chic and just shabby.
Location: the location is stunning The lack of provision of evening meals and the distance to anywhere which provides them is the only downside.
The staff were pleasant and helpful but the hotel was not what you expect from a five star. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean but tired. Unlike the picture of it on the website the curtains did not match the 4 poster curtains and were missing a pelmet - they were clearly not intended for that room. The covers on the dining chairs were worn through and the sofa was well worn and had marks on the covers although it was comfortable. The bathroom basically needed replaced. The seal on the bath was messy and there was a crack in the bath on the outside. The shower door had black lines round the glass door which I took to be mould (as did the window frames) and no matter what you did it leaked all over the floor. The hotel website still on its special offers page mentions 'A chance to dine in our classically bespoke Brasserie' but in fact only breakfast is provided. Another disappointment. Needs updated and the fact it is B&B only made clear. The breakfast was lovely and well cooked . A lovely building and location but more of a 3 star in its current state and we felt it was expensive for what it was. With updating and attention to detail it could be stunning but gives the impression of struggling to keep going.

Great for couples looking for a romantic getawayPosted Jul 14, 2013
Superb location, lovely country house and beautiful gardens, nice and helpful staff. We stayed in one of the standard rooms, which was pleasant but a bit small. The food was very good and very reasonably priced, as we're he drinks. Overall, a very nice experience that we intend to repeat in the future.

Oasis of calmPosted Jun 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
We spent two nights at the Hermitage and by the end of them were so relaxed we did not want to leave. The hotel is set among trees which ring with birdsong in the morning and exude calm in the evening. The service is great and very understated. Meals in the beautiful panelled dining room were excellent and our room was spotless. Aim waiting to go back!

Great if you want isolationPosted May 5, 2013
Pros: The food & enthusiasm of the hotel team
Cons: Needs a lot of work to make it a quality offering
Location: Difficult to get to. Several miles from anywhere
Far too far away from civilisation which was not apparent when booking. The team tried very hard but the place seems to be run on a shoestring. We were were only there for a couple of nights and that was enough. Overall standards were below expectation

Lovely Relaxed StayPosted Mar 18, 2013
Pros: Staff attitude, room decor
Cons: Finding it
It was the perfect hotel for the Island. The staff managed to strike a great balance between and attention and being relaxed. The evening meal was a pleasant surprise, much better than I was expecting. Would definitely stay there again. Only small niggle, it is quite hard to find and the directions on the website are very helpful, so if you are going to stay there make sure you can find it.
