LOCATION-LOCATION-LOCATION!

Posted Jun 1, 2014
Pros: Character & charm-there is an elegant comfort to be able to pop down either in yoga pants or a gown and still be treated like a VIP friend.
Cons: Rooms need an update to decor & layout. We barely had room for our suitcases and had to rearrange furniture to have space to scooch around the bed.
Location: BEST location in Sultanahmet - DIRECTLY on the Hippodrome! The Magnetic/Brazen Column is at the doorstep and all other sites are steps away.
This was our third trip to Turkey and we wanted to devote a week to Istanbul. We created a rubric of 29 factors to select a hotel. It came down to the final 5 in the Sultanahmet area. I was a little concerned about the room pictures but the location directly on the Hippodrome finally swayed our decision. WOW-did we make the right the decision! It was FAN-TAS-TIC! The view from our breakfast terrace was magnificent. Sauntering in from seeing the sites and hanging at the patio cafe was such a luxury. We spent much more time going to see the sites versus trekking back and forth. Also, did I mention it is a flat walk? I can not overemphasize how nice it is to have that last couple of blocks be on flat ground.

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at the Alzer hotel. As we were only in town for a short visit, it provided us with the perfect location to see all the significant sights. We stayed in the Pasha Suite which provided adequate room and comfort for three lady travelers. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive. They made us feel like we were very special. The restaurant food was quite delicious and the buffet breakfast was certainly adequate. We all agreed that this was the best place for us, providing the convenience, comfort and room size we required. If only to make one negative comment, it would be that the beds were very hard. Perhaps the hotel could offer a mattress pad or something of the sort for those who may require it. We would definitely recommend the Alzer hotel and each of us agree that when we visit Istanbul again with our families, we will stay there!

Best location for family

Posted Apr 28, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel is old and rooms are small but the location is excellent. It was very clean and staff were very friendly. I visited Istanbul for spring break with my two sons (9 &14 yrs old). My husband did not accompany us but we felt very safe. The hotel is across from the Blue Mosque. There's no vehicle traffic in front of the hotel. It's all brick paved with park like atmosphere. The boys enjoyed playing outside and I didn't have to worry about traffic. There are many tourists in the area and it's very lively till midnight. We took the Metro from the airport ($1.50/person). We changed train one time is between which is very easy so the cost from airport to the hotel was only $3 /person. The walk from metro station to the hotel is less than 5 minutes. The hotel has a restaurant that extends outdoor sitting in front. They also turned their lobby for indoor eating. We ate dinner there once and it was good. The cappuccino was very good and I loved the outdoor sitting with beautiful view of the mosque at night. Restaurant stayed open till midnight. The breakfast was good but my kids didn't care for it as there was no pancake n waffles in buffet. Coming back we took a taxi from the hotel to airport. The receptionist booked it for 60 lira cash only. The mosque has a loud morning prayer around 5:30 am that lasts about 2 mins but it really didn't bother us. Our room(54) was on 5th floor in back. It was loud but we slept well and heard it only 3 times out of 7 days that we were there. The weather was great. Everything is in walking distance. I would stay there again.

Excellent location near must-see sights

Posted Apr 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
We booked this hotel for its prime location near the Blue Mosque and the rest of the main tourist attractions. While it isn't a 5 star hotel, we didn't travel to Istanbul to hang out in our room. The staff is friendly and the breakfast is good which, along with a place to sleep, is all we were looking for in booking. The location made it very convenient to stop in during our sight-seeing and drop off any purchases we may have made. I would recommend this hotel.

Qaint Hotel in Center of Town

Great location in walking distance to many attractions like Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque, etc. Good neighborhood. Older, traditional hotel, with small but clean rooms and new bathrooms. Nice rooftop breakfast room. Good value for money and would stay there again.

Very old fashioned, right by blue mosque

Posted Apr 12, 2014 on Hotels.com
Great location in the heart of sultanahmed next to the blue mosque (note though that mosque cries start early am) . Hotel is very old fashioned including the decor of the rooms and hotel. The breakfast room on the top floor is nice with a great view. The personnel was very nice. Rooms were clean with a good bathroom, yet small and, as mentioned, extremely old fashioned. They initially gave us a room with barely any light at the bottom floor, the room they changed us to was a bit better, though with a few onto a construction site. We ended up changing hotels after one night, since we just didn't feel comfortable in the room/hotel and moved to the Hilton Doubletree instead.

Overall nice hotel for what we were looking for. Wifi, breakfast and location. Rooms a little small and dated but worked fine for us and the price. People were very helpful and a magnificent view for breakfast. Great location right across from the Blue Mosque

I have stayed at this hotel in the past. It is very reasonable. The location is fantastic for walking to restaurants and museums. The breakfast room on the top has an incredible view and the man in charge of breakfast is exceedingly pleasant and welcoming.

Location, location, location & really nice staff

Big thumbs up. Perfect location to walk to all the major sites. The staff is kind and helpful. The rooms are cute and quirky. From the breakfast room - with an exceptional spread of food - you look out over the Blue Mosque. Staying here helped make my time in Istanbul memorable.
