What an awful regrettable experience at this place unfortunately called "hotel"; First, this hotel was rated by expedia as a 3 stars hotel, this is not even a 0.1 star. Second, at the entrance when we had to check in the receptionist was sleeping on a sofa (that what was supposed to be a reception) he hardly woke up in a bad mood after 5 minutes to do the check in. Three, right after we were stuck in what was supposed to be an elevator for 15 minutes. Nobody helped, we barely succeeded to open the sliding door by force to get out. The guy was standing up at the entrance smiling and pointing to the stairs to get to the 5th floor!!! Four, the what was supposed to be a room was awful in all aspects, it looked like a prison cell neglected from any care or cleaning since years... Five, the floor, bed, and most important the pillow, cover and were in a horrific dirty condition black stained with ordure in addition to an unsupportable odor!!!! I went down to ask him gently to clean the room and change them, he rudely replied "no more supplies... tomorrow". Sixth, I covered the bed with my own clothes to spend the night, I woke up in the morning with an unbearable red tearing eye pain!!! I was infected by a virus from the unbearable dirtiness!!!! Seven, not a single cover, pillow or towel has been changed during the whole stay... nobody entered the room to clean!!!! I can stay for hours expressing my deep disappointment describing all terrible stages in that "hotel", but I will limit

The manager very friendly but our whiskey and brandy was stolen so we did not leave our key for them to clean. The kitchen was the dirtiest we have ever seen. The lift only worked after day three. The location is good we could walk to most of the places.

terrible, the room was terrible, we found red ants crawling , We were on the fifth floor and no where near heaven!!!! There was no towel bars in the bathroom, the sea view, over looked the fire escape, and on the very far corner i could see a bit of the sea, the bed was placed on the opposite wall from the air conditioner, meaning that the night lights that were placed on the wall that were supposed to be on either side of the bed were were at the foot of the bed on the wall under the air conditioner, the TV was on the wall above the head of our bed, could never get the TV to work, being on the fifth floor there is NO Wifi, which is free wow. they offer no breakfast , but im quite sure we were better off with out that.the telephone was on the floor under the bed, no night tables, the room reeked of stale something, like a dirty damp smell. no shuttle offered, the there is an elevator.....that does not work. the drapes were good black out drapes. lol when we booked in they said that the room was being cleaned waited for alost 1nad half hours, the man said that there was a problem with the booking said that he hadnt confirmed that we had a room. even tho we copied the confirmation from hotels. com. he said it did not matter that we paid or anything said he had final decision.even tho hotels.com confirmed we had just paid for a roomI will never return to this hotel ever again, Its not even worth considering, HOTELS .COM strike this hoptel from your list :( very unsaisfied

I booked online via expedia for 19-21 May 2015 but at first was denied to check-in on 21 May 2015 (morning at 7.00 am) even though I has paid for two days. I had called the hotel informed that my delay check-in and was granted by the staff who received the call. After one hour waiting and argument then I was allowed to check-in and had to pay Euro 64 but I gave him Euro 70 he never return the balance Euro 6. He told me to collect later and never give me receipt even I insisted. The following day I received notice from my credit card bank CIMB that was deducted Euro 32 for the hotel. All together I had paid Euro 102 in which supposedly only Euro 64 for two days. So I was cheated by this hotel and do not know to whom should I make the complaint.

Great central location and the staff were lovely and always happy to help. You kinda got what you paid for with the rooms - shabby but not tooooo small and the bed was very comfy. The noise from the street on the first floor was a bit of nightmare, so we actually moved rooms, but then it was fine. TV's didn't work either but you don't really need them. Oh and they have a lovely roof terrace where you can eat breakfast, which is a great way to start the day!

Opinion: Worst hotel in Istanbul
My partner and I had an absolutely horrific stay at the Ast hotel. It is not a hotel, but rather, as hostel style of accommodation. The doors of all the cupboards were falling off their hinges, there was no soap, the wires of the tv were exposed dangerously, the tv and the phone in the room were inoperable, the elevator was broken (reviews suggest it has been broken since January 2015), staff did not clean the room once in our stay, and the shower (basically a pipe) floods the small bathroom. We ended up checking out of the hotel early as the room became so musty and dank that we could not breath comfortably. I would not recommend this hotel to any traveler but the low-budget backpacker with no other options.

WORST hotel (HOSTEL) in Istanbul
This was by far the WORST hotel I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. Hotels.com suggests that this is a 3 star hotel in the old city, however it is run and conditioned as a hostel, NOT a hotel. The room we got looked like it was still under renovations, cupboard doors fell off, there were holes in the wall and wires coming out of the TV (which was inoperable, along with the phone in the room), there was hot water for only 3 minutes before turning to freezing, and the internet was horribly spotty. Walls are paper thin, so if you're a light sleeper you're also in trouble. The elevator was out of service (parts everywhere), the sheets looked like they had not been cleaned, and not once during our stay did they come to clean. We ended up checking out early and moving to a hotel that was much better for only a little more money. I would hate for anyone to buy into this hostel without knowing what it is - a low rate hostel which you should not pay more than 20-30 euros for. They also do not offer a receipt - MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE as they try to double charge.

The hotel is under the reconstruction, the lift doesnt work, in upper flors there is high humidity and the rooms are wet and not cleaned so well. The furniture and sheets are old. The breakfast is very simple but the good thing is that you can take a tea any time during the day or night. Advantage of the hotel is very good location.

this was my fourth trip to istanbul as well as stay at the ast hotel... this time i was very disappointed with my experience.. sure the rooms i stayed in before had a few issues.. o well.... Well this time we were placed in a room facing the back of the hotel... our view was a black splotchy painted wall of a building, a rooftop of some sort just below window sill, filled with garbage, then i found the black mould on the ceiling above the door, and above the window, sheets and towels were changed, with damp ones... crawled into bed and it was damp, the housekeeper even hung the towels in the bathroom to dry, Asked for another room but never got one, only stayed 3 nights but nothing was changed. on my last night we spoke to the manager and requested a wake up call in the early morning,thankfully i awoke 30 mins before shuttle arrived to take us to airport...was utterly disappointed this time.. price may be cheaper buttttttttttttt! :( WAS IT WORTH IT??? Great area!!!!!! Great city, we willl return but not to the same hotel. sorry people!!!

Great Hotel especially for bigger families.
I came from UK with my family (2 adults & 4 kids "10,9,3,2 yrs") for 4 nights stay. It was quite a comfortable hotel with very cordial & helpful staff. I was given 8 bedded room which was quite spacious and clean. Walking distance to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cisterns & Bosphorus Cruise. Definitely recommend to friends.

The information provided at time of booking was wrong: no kitchen, no balcony (room was in basement) no working TV). Furthermore, the room was not ready when I arrived (even though I arrived 18:50: when I arrived the receptionist asked me to wait on the terrace, he will call meantime his staff to come to the hotel for cleaning the room, it took one and a half hour until I got the room!) I suggest you to take the hotel from your list since they lied to you about room facilities

I am glad I did not rely on the reviews before booking this hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the best time I have had in a long time for someone who travels a lot and I will gladly recommend this hotel to everyone because of the personal touch and homely feeling of this hotel. The friendly staff with the manager (Ahmed & Shkro and the lady who does house keeping ) who makes you feel welcome from the very first moment and has a lot of stories to tell. The staff are willing to do everything for you and nothing is too much to ask. Staff will happily spend time with you in the lounge till the wee hours of the morning and take care of you like you are family specially Ahmed . I felt like I was at home away from home. Lots of earlier reviews said rooms were small but for a boutique hotel the rooms are more than adequate and are in excellent condition. When they have time they will accompany you to shop and show you good bargains and interesting places etc. They offer baggage storage as well.

The hotel is situated along a road with quite a few restaurants and shops to choose from. Although it is in a tourist neighbourhood, you are not overwhelmed by throngs of tourists. Very good accessibility from the hotel to the main tourist spots. Istanbul as a city is very charming and its cosmopolitan character is present in the variety of languages spoken by the locals. Visits to the Blue mosque and the Topkapi museum are a must. However, you need to prepare your walking shoes for Topkapi, a lot of distance to cover within its complex of buildings and gardens. A minute away from the hotel, one finds a beautiful mosque, known as little Hagia Sophia. It is reputedly the inspiration behind the more well known Hagia Sophia museum. There is also a former Sufi monastery, a zawiya, immediately opposite this mosque which contains a central courtyard and accommodates artwork and book stalls. One particular stall caught my eye filled with beautiful paintings created by a talented young artist in the tradition of classical Ottoman miniature; an echo of Orhan Pamuk's book My Name is Red which recounts a tale of intrigue involving miniature painters through many voices in Ottoman Istanbul. Overall, my stay was far too short and next time I plan to explore the seafront which is within eye-shot from the hotel's roof terrace.

Simply not worth it.
I don't usually write reviews on hotels, but this one was so poor I felt I should add my comments on it. I booked the hotel because it was cheap and really close to the major tourists sites but it proved to be a huge disappointment even at the, admittedly, cheap price. We arrived and immediately were told that the hotel was full, but there was another one "200 metres away". Having got into a car we were driven at least 1km away down a backstreet, further away from the restaurants and tourists sites up a steep and rather grim looking back alley. At this point we made a bit of a fuss on the grounds that it simply wasn't what we booked. The hotel owner promptly completely lost his temper and started ranting at us. Eventually he took us back to the first hotel where it transpired there was, in fact, a room after all. Really we were inclined to leave at that point but it was past 11pm and we didn't have anywhere else to go. The room we got and the hotel in general was in really shabby condition. There were a series of random holes in the walls and ceilings and the electrics were very dodgy. The TV didn't work., the door didn't properly open, the bathroom was constantly soaked and the whole place had paper thin walls. There was only one available plug socket and no bedside lamp. In fairness the other hotel staff were lovely and the room was pretty clean - but local youth hostels were better quality and slightly cheaper.

Dear customers, this hotel is boutique class but has nothing from it. The room where we stayed 4 days was dirty, we asked them to clean, they did it partly, the curtains were not changed during 4 days, the tv was repaired after 2 days, breakfast was poor, the shower was so old as if in 19th century. Overall, I do not recommend to stay anyone in this hotel

My stays in Istanbul have been wonderful, I needed a place to stay that i felt safe and comfortable, I like it there in Ast Hotel, I will stay again when I return, many many more times. I can not get enough of Turkey . There is so many places and things to see and do, in my lifetime I will never Have enough time to explore this great place. The people there are wonderful, friendly and helpful. We are coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Worth helot ever has bug bed
Before I start taking about that hetol , this hetol has bug bed when I asked him about that he said normal !!!! And all the pics you saw in the add is fake ......brakfast alway old and cheap .... I don't recommend that hetol at all ....

i had booked a room from india on the website and also discussed this with your executive on the phone.he had assured me that this was a decent clean hotel with good reviews from previous travellers.since i was in istanbul for a conference till 30 may, i went personally to the hotel and paid cash in advance.when i reached the hotel on 8th of june on my way back from athens, i was told there was no room.i was taken to a side street and shown another room in another building, wherfe i did not like the surroundings.when i refused to go there, i was told the only room in Ast was on 4th cfloor and there was no elevator.i had b no choice but to accept, as i had already paid in full and there was no refund.when i went up, i found a room with a this curtain, no door to the bathroom--just a makeshift curtain.worst still, my electricity kept going off.i kept requesting them to do something, but from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. , i had to sit in the lobby, as it was unbearable to even stand in the room.the owner rudely told me to take my money back and go to another hotel, knowing fully well that i would not be able to find any hotel in the vicinity in the same amount, as obviously, the rates had gone up from the time i had booked.finally the issue was fixed.

Terrible place without proper electricity
In spite of giving cash in advance one week earlier, I was told when I reached on 8th June that there was no room. I was taken to a shady side street and shown another room in a building which had no Hotel sign. When I refused, I was told the only room available in Ast was on the 4th floor and there was no lift. I have a knee problem and TOLD THEM that I was unable to climb so much, and requested them to make someone else shift, but they wouldn't comply. They kept telling me to go to the side street "hotel", the location of which was very indecent. After settling in on the 4th floor, the electricity in that one room in which we lived kept going out, leaving us with no lights and no air conditioning during summer. They couldn't fix it themselves and when in frustration we started shouting at them, they were very rude and shamelessly asked us to take our money back and go and find another hotel, knowing fully well that we wouldn't get another hotel in the same area at the last moment. We were forced to sit in the lobby till 6pm when the electrician came and fixed it. We would sincerely suggest that you do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed here with two other friends (we are all girls) and we were unhappy with our experience. At first, it seemed the hotel manager and staff were very friendly and eager to help us plan our vacation. They greeted us with tea at check-in and helped us get our bags up the steep flight of stairs. The room was fine, nothing fancy. The beds and linens were all clean. We had a nice door that opened to let in air from outside. However the bathroom situation was not good. There wasn't a shower door, so the water got everywhere in the bathroom. There was mold all over the base of the toilet, most likely from all of the water that sits on the floors after you take a shower. There were large holes in the walls of the bathroom. There was also a very strong mildew smell coming from the bathroom. It made our entire room smell of mildew. We asked the hotel manager if there was something he could do about the smell but he said no. We would have been fine with these things because the hotel was cheap and in a great location. However, one day the hotel manager walked right into our room without knocking while we were inside. He had no reason to be in our room, and didn't have any explanation for why he walked in unannounced. We felt very uncomfortable. After reading other reviews, it looks like this has happened to someone else. Please read all of the reviews before staying here!

Poor cleanliness, breakfast very basic (bread rolls, jam, butter, eggs and drinks). The hotel was expensive for the quality of experience which was very poor. On a couple of nights had a guest (lost) trying to get into my room at 1am! Overall bad experience although would say some of the staff were friendly.

A poor hotel
The room was poor, the window could not be left open as cats came in, the curtain was just an inadequate piece of cloth and the net was partialy hanging off, one recessed ceiling light was missing, one wall light did not operate and the light in the shower room above the basin did not work. There were 35 steps to the room and a further 39 to the breakfast terrace with no lift. The hotel was situated at the bottom of a steep incline up to the main tourist area of Sultanahmet.
