We stayed at the Pera Palace for four nights in autumn 2014 and experienced a journey back in time, both into the world of late 19th century European architecture in Istanbul and into traditional standards of hospitality and attention that are nowadays hard to find. Pera Palace is an architecural gem in a splendid and nice location, with the surroundings benefiting from recent gentrification. With Galata bridge and Taksim Square at walking distance, there are few better places in the city. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and proactive; rooms are small but well furnished with all necessary amenities.
