Small, quiet, clean hotel, full of character

Posted May 26, 2014
Pros: Virtually everything, although the stairs to the rooms and roof terrace are steep and narrow
Cons: Nothing
Location: Wonderful location, close to the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Sultanahmet Square
From being picked up at the airport the whole experience at Marmara was a delight. The staff could not have been more welcoming, charming, friendly or helpful. The hotel is in the old city convenient/walking distance to all major places of interest and close to the tram for places further afield. There are many good, reasonably priced restaurants within close proximity. The breakfast terrace has stunning views over the Bosporus which can not only be enjoyed at breakfast but at leisure with a cup of tea after a hard days sightseeing.

Ideal location

Ideal location and easy walking distance to trams, buses and interesting sites. Room was cosy and bathroom quite tight. The helpfulness and extra attention to clients comfort more than made up for a small room, which seems to be general for this type hotel in this area of Istanbul. The views of the Bosporus from the upstairs terrace were spectacular, and a pleasure to have one's breakfast from. The room and hotel were very clean and towels fresh daily.

Great Location & Price

Generous warm & friendly staff. Simple but filling breakfast, (try the home made fig jam). Location perfect but use the Topaki Palace Wall to get back to the hotel. Will definitely stay here again.

Excellent guesthouse very well located.

We really enjoyed our 8 day stay at Marmara Guesthouse. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Elif. Breakfast on the top-floor terrace with its beautiful view of the sea always got our day off to a great start. We strongly recommend this guesthouse.

Couldn't have picked a better place to stay while in Istanbul. Simple, clean, very affordable, serene roof terrace and within walking distance to everything. Staff was helpful and accommodating. I would easily recommend this to anyone.

Breakfast overlooking the Bosphorus was a treat. The hotel was fine, good value in a great area but overall just a bit shabby.

Quiet and central

Posted Oct 30, 2013
Pros: Very quiet street, hotel pickup from airport.
Cons: Breakfast is arranged in a difficult corner of the kitchen. Also it is necessary to lean over food to reach other items in the back corner.
Location: Location very convenient Mosques,Palace, Cistern ,Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar all within walking distance.
Room size was comfortable. But duvet only just large enough for a double, some pillows over stuffed. The young man who checked us in and out was very helpful especially when organising our shuttle bus to the airport. A challenging walk from kitchen carrying breakfast to table, across one step, up down and up more steps. Hot drinks always available from a machine. Other drinks can be purchased.

Lovely little Guesthouse, Friendly, Helpful staff.

Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Great location. Good terrace view.
Cons: Decor. UPVC tables could be updated to wood or steel.
Location: Blue Mosque, hagia Sofia, 5 minutes away. Harbour 20 minutes walk away. Restaurants/Bars situated within yards. The Sultanhamet area is best area.
This is a great little Guesthouse located just 5 minutes walk away from both the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. It is also located 5 minutes walk from Kennedy Avenue the road running alongside the coast of the Bosphoros Sea. Within minutes nearby are a host of shops and bars/restaurants and the Arasta bazaar. It is about 20 minutes walk down to the Harbour for the Boat tours, Bridges and nearby Spice Bazaar. The guesthouse is quite small with what I would guess was about 13 rooms. Our room was well furnished with a shower/toilet and was well kept by the maid. Breakfast is taken on the roof terrace which affords a superb view over the Bosphoros. The breakfasts consisted of cooked meat, eggs, cheese, olives, cerals, bread and yoghurts and it was plentiful. There is also a complimentary coffee machine for use during the day/evening. The staff at the guesthouse including Elif and Meyri were very very helpful and nothing was too much trouble and they will advise you on trips, excursions etc. The building could probably do with a bit of a redecoration in respect of the paintwork and the UPVC tables on the balcony have seen better days, but these are the only minor downsides. We have no doubt there are many more plush places in Istanbul but for the budget price this was very good indeed and we would have no problem in recommending it to friends and would contemplate coming back here again.

Converted home, touristy area

Posted Aug 26, 2013
Pros: The view from the terrace on the roof where breakfast is served was fantastic.
Location: It is near the prime tourist destinations (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace); but I would rather stay a couple of tram stops away instead..
The hotel was hard to find. We were at the top of a tall, narrow staircase. It did not seem like a good value for the cost, compared to other hotels further from the tourist sites.
