A Step Back In Time

Posted Dec 29, 2014
Pros: The reception an historical heart of the hotel. The location.
Cons: The breakfast menu costs versus what I was charged (ex taxes etc) didn't match. That bugs me.
Location: Loads of shopping, bars, restaurants, cafes, and the Galato Tower. Further afield ar Istanbul's main tourist draws.
Arriving at the Pera Palace is like stepping back in time. The ground floor is like a museum from a time when luxury travel was for the privilaged few. Beyond the rather grand reception, and ascent on the historical lift the hotel starts to faulter. It's not that anything's bad, it's just OK. We were given a room towards the rear of hotel because it was quiter than the front - we must of looked tired on arrival. I never ate in the hotel other than at breakfast, which wasn't included n my room rate, but was considerably cheaper than buying it as part of my room rate. Go figure! It's well located, a short stroll from the Taksim district's main street and the Galato Tower, but it's quite a hike across the Golden Horn to the main tourist draws. If you're staying here it's because of the history of the building. I've stayed in nearby 5* hotels which were better, but they don't have the sense that they are part of Istanbul's heratage.

The Pera Palace hotel is grand.

Posted Dec 28, 2014
Pros: The historic ambiance of the Agatha Christie era. Also, we arrived on Christmas Day and we were surprised to see a giant Christmas tree in the lobby.
Cons: We did not have time to use the hotel spa but would on another visit if we ever went there again.
Location: The airport bus goes right by the hotel but the driver took us to the end of the line, hence the necessity to take a rotten taxi.
Istanbul is a beautiful city and the Pera Palace hotel and staff did not disappoint. Everything and every taxi driver, bus driver, shopkeeper, ect., stole, lied or cheated us, I suppose because they do not like Americans.

5 Star and more. Best Rixos Hotel in istanbul

Posted Dec 18, 2014
Pros: Service second to none. Huge rooms.
Cons: Perfect.
Location: The taksim high street is around the corner with its many shops and restaurants.
Our booking was for Pera Palace, from 7/12/14 for 9 nights, where we had stayed twice before in 2013 and had enjoyed our stay there on both occasions. But this time we were greeted by a rude and arrogant customer service man. Firstly he couldn't find our booking and than made us run from room to room with various prices and did not take into account we were paying customers who had travelled from afar. We had no choice but to stay the night. We found the staff around hotel unfriendly and arrogant. We called Expedia and transferred to the Rixos Pera the next morning. We were welcomed by all the staff, as we had stayed here over a year ago. The room was beautifully set out and huge compared to Pera Palace. Breakfast time very enjoyable and plenty of choice. Staff were very friendly and professionally. The hospitality manager kivanc Ucar introduced himself and assured us if we needed anything just ask, as he had been made aware about our poor experience at Pera Palace. What request we made to the staff they were always fulfilled. We never heard anyone say the word "no". We were so pleased with our stay and thanked the staff and gifted them chocolates on our last day and they gifted us with a huge box of macaroons. Truly a fantastic place to stay. Highly recommended. Close to shops and restaurants. Airport is about 30 mins. And taxi costs about 60 Turkish lira.
