Sole travellers should avoid
Checked in after midnight (shuttle the hotel arranged wasn't there upon my arrival). Got shown my room. First impressions were it's a lot smaller than expected, but photos can be misleading and I was too tired to check. Next day I remembered to check my booking confirmation and I was supposed to have been given a double room, but had been given a single. As I'd already gotten ready for bed, I raised the issue the following day with the manager, who insisted that no matter what I booked, I am one person, so I get a single room. I raised the issue with hotels.com who wanted to phone me to make alternative arrangements, but my plan didn't cover me for turkiye, so we arranged to take the call from reception. Four times different hotels.com reps tried to speak with me, each time the manager and another member of staff refused to pass their calls to me. The manager knew he was being deliberately obstructive and had the audacity to raise his voice at me and tell me to be kind(!) He had by that stage offered to put me in the room I had actually paid for, ever so kind of him, for the remainder of my trip, however, he initially wanted more money to do that. He also told me I didn't need to speak to hotels.com, as he had already told them I was accepting the room, which I had not. This man clearly has no respect for women. He refused to refund me the difference between the cost of the rooms, despite the fact he eventually conceded he was at fault. Waste of a whole day.Avoid at all costs

HELLO LAURA I am the manager of hotel tulipo house we noticed that the type of room you kindly made is occupied because you stayed in a single bed for 2 days and it was okay, normally your booking was economy room so I offered to give you a balcony with sea view for 10 euros and you should also learn that a When you go to a place, you are not the only one there, so you should pay attention to the tone of your voice and you have been refunded on my own initiative. I will ask you something, please do not stay in a hotel again and affect the people there badly and you should listen to them.

The only best point it is the view to the sea. All other, room, breakfest, clean in the room, dimension of room related whit what it is write on the site when you whant to book it is diferent, breakfest it is very por and it is in the other location, not at the hotel

Pleasant room
Windows are a little old. Expect some noise. Room is clean bathroom clean and bigger then most. Enjoyed the stay, people at the hotel are first rate. Will return if the chance presents itself.

Strange hotel with the nice view
It was quite hard to find the Tulip house because the sign is very, very small (landmark - Art City hotel or Four Doors hotel). The room was clean; the stuff is correct but it seems to be somewhere in their dreams: I'd asked to repair the refrigerator but in one week at my departure it was still broken.

The Room was clean and good sized. It was very warm room ! :) super close to all attractions in Istanbul. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great - plenty of choice ! I'd definitely recommend this hotel !!

Good value for money. The only very major shortcoming was the bedbugs, i couldn't go under the duvet but the room had a heater so I didnt use the duvet at all.

Pros. 1. The hotel is about 10-15 minute walk from Sultan Ahmet and Hagia Sofia, about 10 minute walk from tram station. 2. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. 3. The breakfast was really nice. 4. The staff were helpful and gave us a map and directions to places we should visit Cons. 1. The towels in the hotel are over used 2. There is no water kettle in the room to make coffee although I asked for it couple times and every time they told me they will send one till I gave up 3. You have to ask for water bottles every time you want to drink water, they never put water bottles in your room 4. I asked for an iron but I never got one 5. I asked for a weight scale while I was packing my bags but they said I have to use it in the lobby and they can't bring it to my room which meant I had to weigh my bags down and take them back up to move stuff between my bags 6. The hotel was merged with the other hotel next door so the photos of the nice wooden restaurant and terrace are for a place which is no longer in service 7. The toilet wasn't flushing properly even that they sent someone to fix it 8. The TV was not connected but I didn't even bother talk to them 9. I had to stay in a much cheaper room than the one I booked the first day I got there because my room was not ready until they moved me to my room next day 10. The blankets had many stains, they really need to be cleaned or replaced

Straightforward, honest, decent hotel
A low priced hotel with good service in a very good location. Not the Ritz, but honest enough lower priced hotel. Reception staff are interested and helpful, 24hr service, offering all the advice you may ask for. The airport pickup service didn't work - several days of emails plus a message to hotels.com resulted in a promise but no actual pickup awaiting. However, taxis are straightforward and honest. They are metered and the price predictable. From the airport to Tulip House Hotel costs about 45 Turkish Lire which is 15 euros in July 2015, i.e. the same as the pickup service would have cost. Just join the queue outside Arrivals and take the next available. Overall, a good hotel which served our needs perfectly.

Kudos to Tulip House
Tulip House is located within walking distance to Sultan Ahmet Sq, Blue Mosque, Cistern n Topkapi Palace. However the roads leading to the hotel are paved with cobblestone and are quite steep, certainly not easy to negotiate. For those with luggage even the smallest and for those who has difficulty with walking long distance on uneven and steep terrain, it is better to access the hotel by vehicular transport. The staff are warm, cordial and helpful. Thank you, Memo, my son, for showing us how friendly and hospitable the Turks are. I must also add that the breakfast served every morning at the Tulip House was fresh and excellent! I would not hesitate to give it a 2 thumbs up rating!

make the small splurge for a balcony room
I had a two night layover before catching a long distance bus south. A small splurge for a balcony room overlooking the sea to the west at the Tulip Hotel was worth it. The room was very small, but the balcony provided a wonderful space to rest at the end of the day. Breakfast was very good, although Nescafe is the Turkish coffee of breakfast. It was a great value for the price and the staff at the desk helpful.

A Badly Managed Hotel
Location is close to all attractions but on a steep hill. When we arrived they were overbooked and asked us to move to a hotel down the street and made us weight for 1 hr on check in. After a heated argument we were given a lousy room on top floor that was changed to a standard double room next day. (which we initially booked online) They are overbooking on purpose and this is something that should be reported to local tourism office because I saw the same happening with another couple on check out. Breakfast is on basement which has a reasonable variety. Rooms are well sized and clean but nothing special. Recently they have merged Art City hotel next door with Tulip House and reception of both is at Art City that is also confusing. Overall I think it is a really badly managed hotel and because of that I would NOT Recommend stay here.

On the good side the location was fine, except you have to climb some pretty steep street to get anywhere. Hotel is located in a maze. I wanted a budget room and I got it. The ceiling was so low I kept hitting my head. On the positive side the room was clean, hot water good most everything worked (except the tv)

Great location - low price.
The Tulip hotel is well located near the major sites in the Sultanahmet area. The Blue Mosque is a 7 minute walk in the hilly neighborhood. Although modestly priced, their breakfast was a feast to enjoy, especially the Turkist coffee. Our room had a lovely view of the Borforhous.

The hotel is located on a quiet and convenient street. The tulip house it's under renovation so I was placed at the art city next door. I think it is the same owners. The room was a bit small but very clean. Breakfast was wonderful. The hotel staff is so friendly and accommodating.I would definitely recommend.

Review for sister site, Meridiani Hotel
I did not stay at the Tulip House, but their sister site just up the hill, Meridiani Hotel Istanbul. This was due to a payment glitch and overbooking. Admittedly I was rather frustrating but they were extremely accommodating. It took about 30 minutes for my room to be ready. I was offered tea and assistance with my shuttle arrangements while I waited. The room was very nice, clean and had a set of slippers waiting. I was able to get much needed rest and shower during my 16 hour layover. I would definitely stay again, this time for a little longer! :)

Woke up with giant, throbbing bug bite on my face.
I booked a room at Tulip House so that I could do some sightseeing in the Old City the night before business meetings in Istanbul. I wasn’t provided a room in Tulip House itself, but in a “hotel” owned by the person at the front desk’s uncle. While only a short walk away, it was certainly not as convenient or well-kept as Tulip House. The room was up 5 flights of super-narrow stairs, and although someone assisted me with my bag going up, I was leaving early the next morning and didn’t find anyone around to help going down. The room and premises seemed clean enough. However, I woke up with a throbbing, itching bite on my cheek. It got worse and worse throughout the day, and I arrived to my meetings with a huge, swollen red bulging mark on my face. Several people asked what had happened. Unfortunately, I had also booked and paid for a room at Tulip House for my last night in Istanbul. When I explained the situation, and my unhappiness at being put at the other residence, I was informed I would receive a refund. It has been two months and I am still waiting for my refund. I would stay far away from this place – there are far better options in Sultanahmet.

Great location,it is located right in the heart of sultanahmet,mins away to the blue mosque and ayasofiya. the rooms in higher floors have the best view possible in this part of Istanbul,looking over the old town and the ocean. very friendly and helpful stuffs. defitnitely would stay again.

Very good value for money and excellent service
At first it was very hard to find even if it's very near to the tram station, you really have to turn on your GPS (mine wasn't working) or ask local restaurants nearby. Check-in was very efficient. Room was big enough for me (solo). Wifi connection is very strong staying at 2nd floor with sea view. Room is clean and very comfy bed and sheets. Breakfast is good but the same in every morning. Staff is very helful with directions, they even gave thier Tramway card for me to use coz i lost mine. Neighbourhood is very quiet and safe. You just really have to walk in a very stiff streets going to the tram. Very close to Sultanhamet park 5min walk. the only con is that i can hear people from hotel hallway from inside my room esp if they are noisy. over all, very good value for money and that is the most important.
