“Good could be better”

I was at this hotel for Thanksgiving 2011 visiting family in Ithaca. I was also at the Country Inn last thanksgiving. The hotel is a real bargain at this time of year. However, beware the price triples during the summer. While it is worth it for the price in the off season, I would certain question the price during the season. While I was very impressed in 2010, I was somewhat underwhelmed this time. The staff seemed lackadaisical in their attitude towards guests and the maintenance was off. I had a curtain that did not open and close well and a sink that did not drain well. Since their were few guests at the time, they let me change rooms when the noise from some generator was very near my room was going on and off and was disturbing. I have been going to Ithaca for thirty years and have yet to find a hotel or b and b I was terribly impressed with. All i would say is if you are coming in the summer, stay some distance from the city to get a good price.

Area recommendations

The most important thing to see in Ithaca is the gorges, three state parks are out of this world. They appear to be landscapes you would only expect only in the southwest. Next I would say the Ithaca Commons because cities in the northeast do not have vehicle free downtowns besides Ithaca. You will meet some unusual and exciting characters there and enjoy the varied shops. After that I would recommend the Farmers Market with over 100 booths of artisans and organic farmers. There are many others but the only one I will mention here is the boating from the Inlet on Lake Cayuga. The views are magnificent.

Getting around

Ithaca is hard to get around. You need a map even though the city is quite small.

“Very pleased”

I go to this area a few times a year. I have stayed at a lot of different places. I am sold on this place. Hot tub in my room was awesome. Room is very spacious and easy to work in.

Must see Buttermilk Falls and all the Gorges in the area.

“Great buy in Ithaca”

“Damsl”

This is the first time I stayed at a Country Inn & Suites. I was extremely happy with the room and service. I was on a college trip with my daughter. It was so nice to have a sitting room with sofa, desk and TV separated by a door from the bedroom. My daughter could sleep later than me and I had a spot to enjoy my morning coffee and email. I will look for a Country Inn on my next trip. It was also nice to have breakfast there too. I am a very satisfied customer!

“I'd go back”

I believe this hotel is fairly new and it's condition shows that. Very clean. The staff is friendly and having a real breakfast is always a big point for me. It's located just outside of town as very close to Ithaca College. Buttermilk Falls State Park is worth seeing and is almost literally just around the corner. After a day of walking it and other state parks, having a Jacuzzi tub in the room was great.

Area recommendations

As well as Buttermilk, Robert H Treman and Taughannock Falls State Parks are an easy drive and very scenic. Of course all the area lakes have more wineries than you could possibly visit. But it's fun to try.

When to go

Plan ahead and go in the fall. The foliage in the Finger Lakes region is spectacular at peak.

“A great place tp stay”

“Excellent Hotel”

1. Room: Clean, very spacious, whirlpool bath tub in each room, super comfortable bed; shower head is not as powerful as desired; inability to fully close shades on window, which was odd 2. Breakfast: very expansive and diverse options; large eating area and healthy food; complimentary newspapers. 3. Service: very good

“Perfectly adequate”

The service was very good and very friendly. The room clean. The overall location fine. Negatives: 1) Not in town, so it's a drive to do anything. 2) No access to the nice view in back. 3) Breakfast was a bit primitive for a vegetarian. Atmosphere of breakfast room not the greatest (TV on, no view of the area).
