Close to the small but modern Ivalo airport. Easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and bus station from where you can take a bus to Saariselka ski resort, which cost about 10 euros. The hotel is situated by a fabulous river and nature. You can book some amazing excursions from the hotel's ClubNord department. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Wonderful hotel
This hotel is fantastic! I stayed here for three nights and the staff was wonderful! Diana, Terhi and the server in the restaurant were unbelievably helpful. They assisted me arranging a very special birthday celebration and showed me where to go hiking and how to reach there by bus. They all went beyond the call of duty. Besides that, the hotel is in a good location, bus is easily accessible. Breakfast was wonderful and prices are quite reasonable for rooms. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable!

It’s fine for a night or two...
Receptionist was super friendly, check in was quick and efficient. The room was nice and had everything I needed plus a kettle. It had been recently refurbished so it looked really good. Restaurant: meh... I ordered the reindeer which was overcooked and the potatoes it came with were inedible. When I complained one waiter tried to find excuses, then another waiter resolved the situation. My dinner in that state should never have been served in the first place though. If you need to catch an early flight from Ivalo it’s worth bearing in mind that hot breakfast isn’t served until 07.00 but you can get some fruit and juices/ coffee.

Hotel Ivalo
The highlight of our stay was the attitude of the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. We were late for breakfast the first morning and the staff were clearing away the buffet but stopped when we asked if we were too late to grab something. We had what we wanted, which was absolutely delicious and they carried on clearing 15 minutes later. The hotel is very warm and is in the right area for aurora watching. My only suggestion to improve the hotel is that some rooms appear to need updating.

A lovely uced over river view room! A nice feeling to this hotel. A bit far out of town but bus stop out front. An old hotel and needs a bit of tlc but warm and welcoming. Staff were friendly and helpful. Was good for an overnight for us. Food in restaurant for evening meal was great. Other guests seemed to be really enjoying the winter activities offered.

The hotel is a basic motel/lodge style but was clean and very cosy with underfloor heating making the shower room super warm! Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. The fridge was useful to store a few things from the local K supermarket where we stocked up on fruit and salad for our supper after our activities during the day. We also had a coffee and cake at the Bistro in this supermarket which is only a few minutes walk away from the hotel with another supermarket further on (both within easy walking distance) which also has a café/restaurant. We had the buffet breakfast everyday which included as much tea, coffee, juice as you wanted along with a selection of cold cuts, cheese, bread, toast, rolls, fruit, yoghurt, cereal as well as hot buffet of bacon, egg and sausage. Plenty to keep us going. All the dining areas were spotlessly clean, including cutlery, the buffet was replenished discreetly and often by staff and tables cleared away. When we were there the hotel was quite full with a French tour group so we joined them for the day excursions organised by the on-site Club Nord. This company, and staff, was also excellent with special mention of Sirkku (with whom I was communicating by email almost daily prior to departure!) and Clement the guide for the Reindeer Farm and Sami Museum visit (a great day excursion we thoroughly recommend). Thank you to Sirkku for suggesting the itinerary for us and sorting out some dietary issues, and special thanks

Excellent staff. Very attentive and helpful. Great tours/excursions. Daily breakfast and dinner buffets. Food got cold quickly though. No shampoo or conditioner in the bathrooms or face cloths. Bedding is fairly comfortable but hot. Down duvets. There is a swimming pool and sauna.

Needs working elevator.
Staff very helpful after I called for late check in. That night, however, the elevator did not work. Staff helpful in carrying some of my heavy luggage upstairs but elevators still did not work in AM which made check out difficult.

Free equipment makes the difference
Very good hotel, conveniently located. Breakfast could be improved. Two huge advantages: 1. Their unusual generosity in offering equipment - they provide for free without limitation cross country skiing equipment, ice skating shoes, snow shoes and toboggans. It left us impressed. 2. Northern lights can be spotted from the hotel's backyard, and the staff is taking aurora alerts. There is also a pools and saunas center.

Perfect stopover
Arrived around 8pm and was swiftly and politely checked in. Nice bar area and food that we didn't try was buffet style and plenty were eating. Again there is a pool and spa but our stay was brief so didn't use. Beautiful winter wonderland surroundings. The room was comfortable in a cabin style and was warm and clean. Just a 10 minute 7 euro bus ride from the airport we couldn't complain as a stepping stone to our adventure in Lapland.

We stopped off here one night as close to ivalo airport before heading further north. Hotel is nice and comfortable with good sized rooms. A nice touch was the 12 o’clock checkout so no need to rush around in the morning. We ate in the restaurant in the evening off their a la carte menu and the food was really excellent.. maybe a little expensive but that is more due to the cost of living this far north than anything else. A substantial self service breakfast is also included. I would rate this hotel and would stay here again if travelling this way again. Good location right on the lake too

Nice stay in a quiet, remote town.
Rooms were small but clean. Front desk helpful with directions and information about local bus service and planning activities. Breakfast was solid but not great. Served same food both days. Pool was letdown as too cold for swimming and even jacuzzi was rather uncomfortablely cold and only big enough to fit two.

A little tired, mediocre food.
The hotel is tired, the decor and facilities show it. Sadly the typical Finnish restaurant they advertise isn't open to guests unless you are part of a big tour group booking. When we were there the hotel was full of French tour groups. For dinner we went for the a la carte menu in the main restaurant, which was expensive and not great. The risotto was chewy and dried up, the arctic char was very dry and overcooked. The crab was covered in sweet chilli sauce (not mentioned on the menu). The dishes weren't freshly cooked to order and were very obviously reheated. I suspect the soup came from a can! The location means you dont have the option of eating elsewhere unless you have transport. Overall this hotel is a bed for a night in a town with limited choice. Its ok for one night but I recommend going somewhere better or more authentic if you want a real Lapland experience.

We used the hotel overnight as we travelled further North. The staff were extremely helpful and our restaurant meal was excellent. I would recommend it to friends without hesitation.

Fantastic staff
The staff were all amazing, very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. It is great having Club Nord right there on site to be able to book your tours and get your snow gear from. The restaurant alacarte menu was amazing. We can recommend the Inari Lake fish, the ptarmigan pate, the salmon, crab and the reindeer. Make sure you go on the husky dog sleds, the snow mobiles and also out to see the Northern Lights. A fabulous holiday!

One night stopover on the way to Utgard
I stayed at Hotel Ivalo for one night before joining a group to go to Utgard for the aurora borealis. I arrived early afternoon before the standard check in time and the hotel graciously accommodated my earliy arrival. Check in was quick and simple. Front desk staff was friendly, warm and efficient. My room was simple, clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable, which was rather important to me after by 17+ hour journey. For dinner, I ate at the hotel restaurant, selecting the buffet over the a la carte option. The buffet included a simple salad bar with fruit, two entrees (fish and pork), potatoes, mixed vegetables, a selection of breads, dessert, water and coffee. The food was more home cooking versus gourmet, but tasty, filling and satisfying. Dinner buffet was 24 EUR or just under $30 USD. There is also a bar with a fireplace next to the restaurant. Included with the room charge is the breakfast buffet. The buffet included a selection of fruit, cold cuts, cheese, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, eggs, meat (pork), oatmeal, breads, coffee and tea. The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and hot tub with limited hours, 3pm - 8pm if I remember correctly. There is an indoor children's play area, a lounge with an electric fireplace, billiards and comfy couches for socializing or relaxing. Other miscellaneous details: Taxi from the Ivalo airport to the hotel was 24 EUR. There were several ATMs in the Helsinki airport, so getting EUR was simple.

Great option in the heart of Ivalo
Hotel Ivalo is an excellent choice for exploring Ivalo and Lapland. It is quiet, clean, and comfortable. The rooms have been recently renovated and are are reasonably spacious. The hotel offers a restaurant (we only had the breakfast, which had a lot of tasy options), bar, and also provides rentals and activities. We did the one hour snowmobile safari which was an absolute blast.

Nice hotel with lovely staff
Hotel staff were always helpful and friendly with great advice. Rooms were very clean and bathrooms adequate. Breakfast simple. Private sauna able to be booked was a great bonus. Other saunas also lovely. Hotel lets you use bikes from property. Would recommend anyone to stay!

Great hotel for holiday
Location is good and there's a supermarket nearby. You can enjoy free ice-skating opposite the hotel, free sauna and swimming pool in the evening. There are a lot of activities arranged by Club Nord. The only negative is the wifi is too weak if your room is far from the lobby.

Does the job!
This was a perfectly good hotel - as others have mentioned, there's not really much choice when you go to Ivalo so you have to take it as you find it. Having said that, it was well run, lovely staff (with excellent English!), old fashioned but that's kind of nice considering it's in the far North in the middle of nowhere and you don't go to Lapland necessarily expecting high-tech luxury. The hotel is undergoing renovations and initially we were given a new room which was lovely and much more modern than the original bits of the hotel . Unfortunately this was in the part of the hotel that was being renovated so it was very noisy from early morning. We mentioned this to the reception staff who couldn't have been more helpful or apologetic and arranged one of their larger rooms for us to move to at our leisure. The new room was great, it hadn't been renovated yet so was the old style which was still perfectly nice - had a separate living area, big bathroom with private sauna (which was awesome!!!!) and very comfortable beds and a lovely view of the river the runs behind the hotel. There is a swimming pool which we didn't go in and a Jacuzzi room which we did. There was a traditional cold water bath as well which I braved (for about 2 seconds!) before jumping back in the lovely warm Jacuzzi. Restaurant food was a mixed bag from average to excellent depending on the night! (reindeer steak was excellent). Only real downside was a very sparse breakfast.

Comfortable & convenient location
The hotel is reasonably basic, but clean, and the staff are friendly & helpful which makes all the difference. This is a remote area so no luxury options. Hotel also helped book a Northern Lights excursion. In summer, the roads are good - consider hiring a car, which makes getting around easier. And consider too, staying at Saariselka as an alternative. It seems to have a few more tourist options, but we did not visit.

The hotel was very cosy. Staff always polite and helpful. Our beds were very comfortable. We didnt eat from the buffet instead chose to eat from the menu. The food was beautiful, with generous size portions. We did enjoy a quiet drink by the fireside.
