"Nice cozy stay."
Stayed for a short overnight stay. Short walk from JR station. Was able to leave luggage at front desk after check out while we went back to explore Hakone. Very helpful friendly staff.

"An onsen hotel where you cannot use onsen"
Too bad this would have been a great Onsen (hot spring bath) hotel if it were not for a single dreadful problem (at least for me). Atami is a well-known onsen town, and people who come to this town look forward to sea food and onsen. Well, when I arrived at the hotel and went to the main male bath room, I found one female employee, middle-aged woman in jerseys, is stationed at the entry. And soon I noticed that this woman freely walks around the dressing area (where you disrobe) and even in the large bathroom itself. Some locals do not seem to mind, but for mw, a Japanese native who has lived in the US for more than half of his life, just cannot accept letting a stranger woman in the same room where I am naked. So I left the bath room, luckily still clothed, went back to my room, and took a bath in a tiny bath tab. And next morning, when I checked in the main bathroom again, I found the same woman still walking around and "serving" male customers. What's the point of coming to an onsen hotel where you are forced to use a super-small bath tub in the room? Otherwise, the hotel is ideally located right on the ocean front with a great view from the room, and food was good and other employees were very friendly. When I complained about that female employee at the front desk, the clerk seemed very surprised. Maybe she was not an employee? But all the same, you cannot use onsen at an onsen hotel. I will NOT recommend this place to any of my friends.

"Little Gem"
This was a beautiful hostel. The building is stunning and the location by the river is ideal. Good amentites, place kept clean and many living areas to eat, meet travelers and relax. A kitchen is available too and the supermarket is less than 10 min away. The onsen was small but well kept. The whole building just felt like it came out of a Miyazaki movie. I found the city nothing particular, and most eateries quite expensive. Even the hostel at 70$ per night felt a bit steep, but it was nice to spend a night here especially if you are on the way back to Tokyo.

"Not very enjoyable"
Although we were only in Mishima for 3 nights and on;y relaly intended to use the hotel as a base from which to see some sights around Fuji-san and the Izu peninsula, we weren't very comforatble in the Hotel Massimo. Our room was tiny and although the bathroom had a frosted glass sliding door with a pulldown screen, it was essentially visible from the bed. All in all, the room was very claustrophobic. The room was clean though and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The breakfast wasn't too bad, although the 'western' option consisted of 1 sausage, 1 piece of ham and a portion of scrambled egg that looked appalling (the rest of the buffet part was ok: croissant, cereal, etc). If you stay here and have breakfast, ask for the Japanese option as the fish looked alright. Best used by people not planning on spending much time here, although the price was also a little high for what it was. As a guide, our hotels in Hiroshima and Kyoto were both much cheaper and were much nicer.

"Good business hotel"
The hotel is about 10 mins by taxi from Numazu train station. Hotel is very large and has good dining choices. Breakfast is a buffet with Western and Japanaese food. There is a traditional Japanese restaurant which is very good. The buffet restaurant serves Western food from a menu in the evening and this is also good, althought the choice is limited. Staff were very polite and helpful and spoke English. The only downside was the bed which was very, very hard and not very comfortable.
