“No surprises with Hampton Inn & Suites”

This was a one night stay dividing up a 1000 mile trip & I wanted a quiet, secure setting to rest before I embraced the final half of my journey. Hampton was the obvious answer. It was only a couple of exits up I-55 from I-20, easy access @ that exit, & although quite busy & full I was promptly & courteously greeted & "attended to" @ check-in, given the option of room service or an outing to a restaurant, provided a well-maintained room with a quite comfortable bed, & furnished a full breakfast the following morning (the buffet had a wide assortment of possibilities that should please any palate). The only negatives were the location near downtown & with broad parking lots on two sides for coliseum use & noise from the two block away Interstate highway & trains that were busy blowing their horns all night long. NOTE: there was NO noise originating within the hotel that awakened me (& the hotel was full of colllege-age folks with Greek letter-bearing license plates & other adornments!). The security of the property was impressive with substantial perimeter fencing with a single entrance, super outside lighting, & serious looking, significant-physical-presence security officer in the lobby.

Area recommendations

This area was ok, but farther North on I-55 there was a wealth of restaurants, shopping options, & access to various services NOT available downtown. The trade off for me was miles vs. convenience (+ my hotel preference in that area was full when I made my arrangements).

“Very comfortable and friendly!”

The staff were amazingly courteous, friendly, and professional. The room was clean and comfortable. The outdoor pool was chilly - but it was still a treat to swim outdoors in September! The free breakfast was lovely and had plenty of hot options. I will definitely stay here again!

“Rude Staff”

The hotel itself was fine (like any other Hampton Inn). All other Hampton Inns I have stayed in had really nice staff. The staff here was rude and never wanted to help us. We kept having to wait to check in because our room wasn't clean so they finally gave us a different room.

Area recommendations

Don't stay downtown. It's not very nice. Stay somewhere near Ridgeland/County Line area.

Go to the Ridgeland Mall and eat Five Guys! Best burger in the world!

“workers nice, hotel needs work”

The people who worked there were very nice and polite. However, we had a suite and needed a pillow for the fold down couch. It took an act of congress to get one and then it was a little damp. Actually we needed two-couldn't get it. The air in the hallways and by the elevator did not work. It blew hot air. It was hard to breathe. They said the air was broke but it never got fixed. Someone had pooped in the pool--gross!!! We had to clean it out ourselves. There was security and I felt safe. I don't think it was worth the price we paid. Will probably stay somewhere else next time.

I don't know because we were at the coliseum for the state high school rodeo finals and did not go anywhere else. Plenty of fast food restaurants around there.

“Will seek out another Hampton Inn next time I travel.”

The complimentary breakfast, cleanliness of the room, service, hotel location, etc. makes me wonder how can you do it at this price? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I would recomment the Hampton Inn in Oakland. It is near the colleges and universities and near downtown Pittsburgh.

“Would not go back.”

My family stayed at this hotel 2 years ago. The hotel was a disappointment this time. The room was so dirty we had to move to another room. This room was cleaner, however the funiture was stained, food was still in the garbage disposal and the kitchen was dirty.
