“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”

This EconoLodge is in an area that has seen better days, but it's one of three motels on the same street, all of which are struggling to keep up appearances. The good part is the cleanliness - the room and the breakfast area were spotless as were the grounds. The stairwells were bad - trash on the floors (dirty Q-tips, dropped food) and the handrails were sticky. The phone in the room was flashing when we checked in and neither we nor the maintenance guy could get it turned off, so we unplugged it. The bed is on the ultra-firm side, a little too ultra-firm to make my back happy, which made my mood uuuugly by the morning we left. An okay place to hang your hat for a couple of nights if you want to save some cash, but be ready to overlook some problems.

Area recommendations

Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach - pricier, but a nicer neighborhood

When to go

This is an ideal time to go to Jacksonville - shoulder season, before Thanksgiving and High Season in Florida, but the weather is good.

Getting around

Using the beltways and Butler Blvd. are a tremendous help getting around this sprawling city.
