I last stayed 20 years ago - the hotel hasn’t changed. Unfortunately the rooms are very dated & have washable plastic curtains. There is a very strong smell of damp in certain corridors & we had to move rooms when we first arrived, because the smell of damp was so strong. Breakfast is a well-oiled machine & reminded me very much of a cruise ship - in fact the way the hotel is run reminds of a cruise ship. The staff were lovely & couldn’t do enough for us, but we felt uncomfortable as there wasn’t a white face amongst them & this smacked of colonialism! The hotel is very tired & dated & needs a proper facelift - get rid of the brown furniture in the bedrooms & cane furniture in the lounging areas & put comfortable sofas & real curtains & white units to modernise the place. Please get rid of the damp, this is a serious issue.
Always a great stay at the Merton. Ideal for families. Just wish they were open for our half term next week so I could re-book.

Excellent with families, clean, great staff.
I’ve stayed at most of the hotels in Jersey, and all of the best ones - I would never pick to stay at the Merton on my own, but if you’re staying with small kids you can’t fault this hotel.
Single parent with two kids, regularly take them here for local ‘stay cations’. The kids love it.
Exceptionally clean for an older hotel, and the staff are excellent.
We will be coming back, and recommend it
Stopped here with friends whilst over for a festival. Really nice place and great staff. Will definitely be stopping here again.

Everything and everyone was amazing and the staff were exceptional. The only complaint I have is the rooms are not air conditioned and there isn’t enough plugs in the room and no usb to charge your devices.
The rooms do come with fans however with limited plug sockets and the fans have very short leads, the only want I could use the fan is if I unplugged the tv.
We had a quick one night stay and had a good time. The room was pleasant (but the plugs are the opposite of the room to the beds). Breakfast was great.

Comfortable hotel in need of Investment
My family and I recently spent 7 nights on Half board in a family suite. The room was comfortable however slightly small versus other hotels we have stayed in. Breakfasts offered good variety however were extremely busy with long queues for the cooked items. . Buffet dinner had good choice however lacked a little quality. The Pool area was very old fashioned and needs some investment. The entertainment in both the star rooms and the lobby bar were ok however over the week felt a little repetitive, and some of the acts were disappointing. Overall we all enjoyed the break and our time at the Merton, however some areas could be improved.
Great hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are cleaned to a high standard with good amenities. There are a huge variety of bars and entertainment. There is no air conditioning but a good sized tower fan is provided in the room.
My only criticism is that I was informed by restaurant staff that breakfast was avalible at 7am and they open earlier than the advertised 7:30am, so I arranged my taxi accordingly to get to the airport after a swift breakfast. Upon checkout at 6:55 the desk staff kept repeating it was 7:30 breakfast, and therefore I would not be able to have any before my taxi. Seems like a breakdown in communication between all parties, as I was informed by multiple staff it was 7am. A bit of a sour end to the trip, it was a shame as the breakfast buffet is fantastic and the chefs and restaurant staff are so friendly.
First time at this hotel and was very impressed! It was lovely and clean, and the staff, the staff are amazing and attentive and very polite. I would have no hesitation staying at this hotel again in the future!
Great hotel, location reasonably close to the centre of town, the food was well above average for holiday hotel. Definitely stay again and would recommend the hotel for both business and pleasure.
I was in Jersey for business, and despite the hotel being more family/holiday orientated, it was perfect for my needs. The food was good, the staff we’re brilliant; friendly and helpful at all times. The pool area was on the other side of the road from the entrance so you never heard it. Ample parking, and a short walk into town.
Our stay at the Merton Hotel was excellent. Room and bathroom clean. Staff welcoming, polite and helpful. Suitable for all ages. Would stay there again.
Merton hotel is amazing hotel for family’s and couples young and old
Near everything, breakfast was spot on , staff cudint Do enough , pool is fab , shows of a night good enough , this our 2nd visit , and defo returning . Buffett reasturant the better than the other reasturants , beds comfy and clean shower was power shower . Drinks were nice in bar and by pool
Good location for what I needed. Great staff, but no air conditioning and very stuffy in the bedrooms.
The pool was only open during the day and closed by 6pm
But all the staff were fantastic and friendly.
Great place for kids, took our 4 year old granddaughter and she loved every minute. Good entertainment over the three days we stayed especially the Hallowe’en nights. Great swimming pool. The breakfast and dinner buffets were superb with great selection. Staff were brilliant. Would recommend for short breaks.
We have stayed at the Merton for the last 20 plus years and we always feel valued. The staff are all so lovely
and seem to remember us. Many staff members have been with the hotel for as long as we have been staying there. One big happy welcoming family which we love being part of for the duration of our stay.
What a great hotel & we just can't believe it is only three stars it should be four!
When we arrived at reception they told us our room had some mantainance issues so they upgraded us to the Merton Suites building next door & wow what an upgrade the room was brand new, twice the size with a sea view balcony, kitchenette & a double walk in shower! Will definitely be coming back!
My stay at the Merton was extremely enjoyable! The breakfast was lovely and so much choice! The facilities were great too. I enjoyed my time at the pool and relaxing on the sun loungers. Overall a great experience.
The aquadrome was a big reason for choosing this hotel. The weather was quite hot, and the bedroom window would only open on one side a few inches. Though there was a small fan, it could not make the room feel comfortable. We won't stay again unless there is a better airflow to make the room feel more comfortable. Breakfast was good, and quite good value. Dinner not such good value, neither in the dining room nor the one restaurant we visited. Better value and choice a short walk away in St Helier. Staff were pleasant, and the manager was approachable.
