Fantastiskt hotell där Selma Lagerlöf, Winston Churchill och Carl Bildt har bott.Restaurangen är bra och kan rekommenderas för den som inte vill gå ut på kvällen.

Excellent Hotel and experience of Jerusalem

Posted Sep 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
Over all stay was fantastic- the hotel management changed within the last year or two for the better. Some of the older staff are no longer there and that is my only negative comment. The mix off older and younger workers provides a solid service balance and a certain cache of style to the hotel. This hotel and its history deserve that. The workers at the hotel are excellent overall - so the comment is not about the workers themselves.

A classical, traditional hotel

Posted Sep 18, 2014
Pros: Very comfortable and cosy with a very relaxing pool area and good gym facilities. The garden restauarant/ bar was excellent.
Cons: Provision of tea-making facilities in the room.
Location: The hotel is within walking distance of the Old City and convenient for the light rail and buses.
The American Colony has lots of character and an interesting history. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. Only a couple of minor negatives: no tea-making facilities in the room, and the closeness of the local minaret which meant that it was a bit loud at the calls to prayer.

A landmark , charming and with soul but dated

Posted Aug 27, 2014
Charming hotel but dated, it urgently needs renovation. Facilities are from the eighties. Room was very comfortable and big, very clean and spacious with view to the pool and the a part of the city. The hotel is not in the centre but is not far neither. Not many places where to go out in the sorroundings. The staff? Needs improvement, not an excellent service although Sammi the Manager was responsive and attentive. The food is priced for what you receive. Breakfast is great, lot of variety. Decoration and infrastructure is not always consistent. The gardens are truly oasis, the outdoors bar is very nice and with friedky ambience.

Insolent service

Posted Aug 24, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel looks lovely and has history, but this cannot carry a property where service is such a low factor on the owner's radar. In a number of areas, the hotel is under-staffed and, despite requests, that remained so throughout our stay. Front office staff can also be very dismissive and for a 5* hotel this attitude is simply unacceptable. Overall impression: lovely bones of a building, good location, so-so neighbourhood and very poor service.

Exploring Jerusalem

Excellent. A little oasis in the city. Everything is relaxed and beautiful, but extremely efficient and friendly. The courtyard restaurant and summer bar are particular gems. We will return.

beautiful hotel

Posted Jun 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
This is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed at in the world. The hotel was originally an old Pasha house, with a great history. It is tastefully furnished with polished stone floors. The service in the hotel was second to none, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast buffet was a feast; outstanding, food very fresh, and wide choice. We had a lovely quiet room, again tastefully furnished, with a comfy kingsize bed, ensuite bath with shower over, toilet and vanity sink. Had dinner at the hotel 2 evenings, food well presented and cooked to perfection. Beautiful courtyard garden and other gardens where you could enjoy a meal or breakfast. Lovely outdoor swimming pool, sauna and gym. Free car-parking, free wi-fi and 20 minutes free phone calls anywhere in the world. Ten minutes walk to the Garden Tomb and about the same to the Damascus Gate of the Old City of Jerusalem. We will definitely stay there again. Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable.
