YOU MUST STAY HEREPosted Nov 29, 2013
I cannot express what an amazing stay I had. From the moment I arrived to the minute I checked out I was treated like a queen. I arrived exhausted from a 17 hour flight. I provided my name and was immediately escorted to my room. I was a little concerned that they didn't ask for my credit card or ask me to complete paperwork. I was told the next morning it was because they knew I would be tired from the trip and that they wanted to allow me to settle in. That I did. What a beautiful room. Very spacious room and a great bathroom. Heated towels, drinks in the mini frig., welcome fruit basket and card. I cant think of one thing that I can say that I did not like about this hotel. Great location, attentive staff, and simply beautifully furnished. If you are contemplating about whether or not you should stay here, look no further. You will not be disappointed.

Royal accommodation in convenient areaPosted Aug 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
Luxurious rooms with heated floors was very nice during our winter stay. We were treated like royalty by everyone on staff. Lovely breakfast included fresh cold buffet followed by cooked to order egg dishes. Entrances are gated and door persons always patrolling. Parking is tight and down a narrow side drive, but was always available. I would not hesitate to book here again!

Luxury boutique choice for a short Jo'burg stayPosted Aug 11, 2013
Pros: Historic property and luxurious and comfortable rooms in the central shopping district of Rosebank. A great value and choice without a car.
Cons: I wish the breakfast offered more of the foods and flavors of South Africa. Also the (smoking) lounge/bar area didn't seem too inviting.
Location: You can take the Gautrain from the airport with ease (switch at Sandton) and walk to the Rosebank shopping areas, even safe for dinner at night.
My wife and I stayed here after an overnight flight. It was a great place to stay for two nights prior to going on safari in the Kruger national park. The staff were friendly and professional and it is great they include wifi and breakfast. The rooms were large and full of all the comforts and amenities.

I was glad we selected this hotel as it is a quiet refuge in a busy neighborhood. The rooms are very spacious with high ceilings. the room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable and the food was delicious. The bathroom was beautiful--I wanted to take it home!

Wonderful Place to Stay While in JohannesburgPosted May 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is the nicest Hotel we have ever stayed in and we have traveled all over the world. A remodeled old Post Office with 20ft ceilings and wonderful woodwork, it's 12 rooms are beautiful. The staff really takes care of your ever need. It's right next to the Rosebank Mall and Gautrain train station that will take you all over the city. From the OR Tambo airport take the Gautrain (that goes right into the airport, look for signs) transfer at Sandton and get off a Rosebank station and hotel is right there! Wish we had known because we paid $70.00us to get a airport transfer arranged by the hotel because we were coming in so late. It takes 30-40 min to drive to the hotel and only 15-20 min to go by this new train! Food at the hotel was excellent. No charge for internet. We were upgraded to a suite on the ground floor because I had some trouble climbing the stairs with a bad knee (there are 2 floors). We got into Johannesburg late in the evening and Jan, the manager stayed to welcome us and take us to our room. I would recommend this hotel to everyone that wants to stay in a safe location in the city with easy transportation to the airport and around the city. Lots of close by restaurants and a African Roof Top Market every Sunday at the Mall next door.

Excellent service! The hotel arranged our transport to and from the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive. They arranged our tour. The food was excellent. The hotel is located within walking distance of a mall. The Monarch Hotel was a great choice and we would certainly stay there again if we have the opportunity to return to Johannesburg.
