At the price it was a steal!.Posted Jun 20, 2014
Pros: not much to not like.
Cons: Shower head leaked a bit.
Location: Guatrain is right at the entrance. Rosebank shopping is adjacent and eat at KOI restaurant!
The room is actually a 2 room suite with a huge separate bathroom and a second guest loo. The suite is tastefully decorated with original art pieces.

Nice hotel close to everything you need.Posted Mar 19, 2014
I booked three weeks before. I had to really try hard to get a booking confirmation out of reception. Sent many emails and called many times. Only got confirmation a few days before. The original booking had been mixed up. The dinner was not up to scratch. The pork stater was disappointing as presentation of the food was hardly worthy of a five star resturant. The prawn stater was heavily battered and oily, the sauce was bland and also lacked presintation. The mains where also not too good. Steak was well cooked but the veggies where over cooked and presintaion was that of pub food. Breakfast on the other hand was excellent! One of the best I have ever had. Staff where super friendly, polite and accommodating.

Very nice place, friendly staff.Posted Dec 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel is right next to the Gautrain station and the Zone. My room was very nice, with very tall ceilings and a fine bathroom. Breakfast service was superb.

YOU MUST STAY HEREPosted Nov 29, 2013
I cannot express what an amazing stay I had. From the moment I arrived to the minute I checked out I was treated like a queen. I arrived exhausted from a 17 hour flight. I provided my name and was immediately escorted to my room. I was a little concerned that they didn't ask for my credit card or ask me to complete paperwork. I was told the next morning it was because they knew I would be tired from the trip and that they wanted to allow me to settle in. That I did. What a beautiful room. Very spacious room and a great bathroom. Heated towels, drinks in the mini frig., welcome fruit basket and card. I cant think of one thing that I can say that I did not like about this hotel. Great location, attentive staff, and simply beautifully furnished. If you are contemplating about whether or not you should stay here, look no further. You will not be disappointed.

Great HotelPosted Nov 9, 2013 on Hotels.com
My wife and I had a great time at this hotel. Breakfast was delicious, and the room spacious and very comfortable. Rosebank is an interesting area of Johannesburg with many facilities, but there was a lot of work going on all over the place which distracted from the enjoyment of walking around.

Best hotel in Joburg!Posted Oct 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
Just about the finest experience I've had in any city in the world, in fact. From the moment I was met with "Welcome to Monarch, sir. You deserve this", to the moment I left, the experience was simply perfect. The location is simply unbeatable, right next to the mall and the restaurant quarter and the Gautrain. I'm not really a fan of Johannesburg, but thanks to the Monarch I can't wait to return!

Awesome Stay... I would Come Back Again!!Posted Sep 13, 2013 on Hotels.com
I stayed at the Monarch for 2 nights... and enjoyed every bit of it. The room was very spacious and clean and had an additional bathroom off of the foyer for visitors. The tub was spacious and the bed was large and comfortable. The service was excellent. The in-room service was also superb. They left fresh fruit and a nice welcome card in my room. In addition, the dinner was great. I ordered the ostrich and date pudding for dinner and it was delicious. The hotel's location is safe and is conveniently located right next to the Guatrain, so I was able to catch the train to the airport and arrive there within 30 minutes! I would definitely recommend the hotel to friends!

Royal accommodation in convenient areaPosted Aug 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
Luxurious rooms with heated floors was very nice during our winter stay. We were treated like royalty by everyone on staff. Lovely breakfast included fresh cold buffet followed by cooked to order egg dishes. Entrances are gated and door persons always patrolling. Parking is tight and down a narrow side drive, but was always available. I would not hesitate to book here again!

Luxury boutique choice for a short Jo'burg stayPosted Aug 11, 2013
Pros: Historic property and luxurious and comfortable rooms in the central shopping district of Rosebank. A great value and choice without a car.
Cons: I wish the breakfast offered more of the foods and flavors of South Africa. Also the (smoking) lounge/bar area didn't seem too inviting.
Location: You can take the Gautrain from the airport with ease (switch at Sandton) and walk to the Rosebank shopping areas, even safe for dinner at night.
My wife and I stayed here after an overnight flight. It was a great place to stay for two nights prior to going on safari in the Kruger national park. The staff were friendly and professional and it is great they include wifi and breakfast. The rooms were large and full of all the comforts and amenities.
