Pros: I loved every minute at this hotel
Location: Very central and safe and stylish
The staff was incredibly responsive, friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is central. The atmosphere is fabulous. The bar is great and the gym is well appointed.

Nice area, but good hotel to avoid.

Management seem to have no interest in managing the hotel. Reception area very noisy when I arrived, and receptionists do not watch the line of checking in guests carefully. This is after one has actually found the hotel! The air conditioning in my room was broken, and fixed on 29 degrees, so more fire than ice! I was moved to another room on asking for it to be fixed. No apology, or concern for inconvenience of packing again, or restarting work I was doing on computer. In morning, cleaner first blocked the corridor with her cart and disappeared. Then removed all bed clothes and towels while I was at breakfast, before I had checked out. Reception agreed this was unusual, but I am still waitng for a call from General Manager, as promised 2 days ago.

Modern with a cool factor

Pros: The cool decor
Location: Well located in a central shopping area with restaurants all around.
Quick check in. Very cool with an art deco meets glass and aluminium feel. Linen and most things about our stay felt luxurious.

Pros: Pool deck
Cons: Food and stage service
Location: Good location for business
Comfortable hotel but interior design not easy on the eye. Nice pool deck for meetings and refreshments. Food poor. Service poor.

Excellent trendy hotel in good location

Everything was great about the hotel although the service didn't meet the standards of the hotel. The manager on the front-desk has quite a rude and abrupt manner, she was like this with us and several other people, she will not go out of her way to help anyone. Also the breakfast seems to be over-run with staff although it took about 10 minutes and me asking for someone to come over before we were served coffee and tea.

Great location, lively new area, with lots to do for families and exec alike. Great shopping, dining and bars. Very up and coming. Rooms are well set-up with free wiFi and Breakfast - very good value for money.

Protea Fire and Ice
Posted Jan 3, 2011 on Hotels.com
This is an inexpensive hotel in a great area for shops and conveniences. There is a lot of building going on so our room was noisy. The rooms are nicely done up but very small - no separate bathroom just a curtain. We were always missing towels and the service was not up to scratch. It is very busy and you feel like a number not a guest however some of the staff members were very helpful and extremely good.

Nice location

Located in Melrose Arch, best area in Johannesburg. Only problem was quirky shower cabinet inside the room without any provision for privacy. Not very suitable for twin occupancy.
