Modern hotel but noisy musicPosted Aug 7, 2014
Pros: The hotel is modern and recently refurbished.
Cons: The sound insulation of the room doors could be improved and the music in the lift lobbies should be switched off at night.
Location: The location suited us; there are restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets nearby. You can get the Gautrain to central Pretoria.
The hotel itself is modern with rooms that are not large but not too small. It is centrally located in easy walking distance to the Gautrain station at Hatfield. Breakfast was not included in our rate but it included a large buffet for 145 Rand pp. (You can get a good breakfast for a cheaper price at nearby cafes.) My only quibble with this hotel is that there is piped music in the lift lobbies and that it took staff an extraordinary long time (after 3 compaints in total) to find someone to switch this off for the night. Our room was only 2 doors away from the lift lobby on the fourth floor and the room door provided little in the way of sound insulation. In the end it was just easier to move us to a new room down the corridor.

Hotel room was a bit tight with no closet, but rooms very clean and had great lounges. Staff was pleasant .

Probably wouldn't stay here againPosted Jun 3, 2014 on Hotels.com
For a hotel in the centre of Hatfield, the Protea isn't too bad. It's a very noisy street, so make sure that you get a room on a high floor. The back of the building is marginally better than the front, but not by much. For business travel the broadband is completely inadequate. I thought initially that might be the local infrastructure, but I seemed to be able to get much better bandwidth in some nearby cafes and other hotels, so no, it wasn't. Having had my moan, it was a comfortable hotel with friendly and efficient staff.

Pros: Convienent (to the Gautrain) and safe location in the suburb of Hatfield
Location: Located a short, walkable distance along Grosvenor Street to Hatfield Gautrain & 1-2 minute walk to Hatfield Square's many restaurants & bars.
Chose this hotel mainly for its location. It was close to the Gautrain. You can go one stop to the Pretoria station but also continue on to Johannesburg or OR Tambo Airport. The hotel itself is what you would expect from a chain. The room was small (the whole hotel is narrowly wedged into a tight space) and the bathroom is tight but it served its purpose as a base to explore the area. The doors could use some kind of spring or stopper as some guests let it fly and the slam echoes down the long hallway. There's a restaurant on site but didn't try it because you are so close to so many options in Hatfield Square just down Burnett Street. It has a pool---technically. Just don't expect to go for a swim as its size is more like a tub or kiddie pool. The hotel itself doesn't have a whole lot of character but if you're in Pretoria for a short stopover or business trip, and are more interested in being out and about during the day, it does the job.

Several restaurants close by, hotel very nice.Posted Jul 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
Our hotel room was very clean and all the staff very helpful, especially in the dining room. Good breakfast food selection. Walkable distance to Loftus Versfeld Stadium (Go Bulls!). Will need to drive or get a cab for most tourist destinations, though it is walkable to the Union Buildings as well.

Good hotel nr Hatfield Pretoria GautrainPosted May 17, 2013
Pros: Location & the free shuttle to where the Tzaneen shuttle leaves from
Location: Very handy for Hatfield Gautrain
Good location for me - close to Hatfield Gautrain. I stayed overnight having flown in from CT to Jo'burg before I got the shuttle bus up to Tzaneen. The street names in Pretoria have changed recently so it can be quite confusing trying to get directions! The hotel also has a shuttle which offers free drop off in 5km radius and paid service for anywhere in central Pretoria - very useful!
