Perfect retreat, a little isolatedPosted Jun 14, 2015
Pros: Rooms, restaurants, views, overall comfort
Cons: Nothing once you accept the slightly isolated location, which is anyway fine for a hotel with this character
Location: Johannesburg Zoo is quite close - in fact that, you probably could walk to
You can't really walk anywhere from here, as it's somewhat isolated on a hill amidst very large private residences. However, whether it's truly necessary for safety reasons or not, most visitors to Johanessburg will travel everywhere by taxi anyway. When you do stay on the property, you'll be very comfortable indeed and want for nothing! The braai at "Flames" is great. It's an amazing experience to savour this and cocktails in the full sun so common on a Jo'burg winter's day ... really odd for us Brits! (Also amusing how the locals wear cardigans etc. when it feels warm enough to us!). The "View" restaurant is also a rather individual take - in a good way - on fine dining. Like most restaurants even in five star South African hotels, these are remarkable value at current exchange rates with the Pound. The rooms are just wonderful with huge his-and-hers sinks, a decorative triumph every bit as impressive as the bedrooms themselves. The view doesn't include the fairly famous Johannesburg downtown skyline - that's hidden behind the Parktown hill. However, the views - from the two elevated restaurants mentioned, and some of the rooms - are very enjoyable including Sandton and the Telkom / Hillbrow Tower. A very luxurious retreat - I suggest choosing it for the days when you are NOT going to be doing much sightseeing further afield, as it's a bit of a waste not to maximize the time you actually spend on-property in such a cosseting and attractive place.

WestcliffPosted May 30, 2013
Pros: views from hotel pool/bar and the old world feel
Cons: pool was cold, rooms need updating and staff coming into rooms way too often
Location: lovely area, quiet
Wonderful hotel in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful views. Great dining at bar and poolside. Needs an update in rooms. Staff kept coming in at early hours unnecessarily.

Room was old, had to pay more for good roomPosted Feb 13, 2013 on Hotels
I booked a room which turned out ro be was just in front of a small swimming pool, in an old building. So I had to pay extra 70 bucks for a good room. TV does not work properly.

Hotel in zentraler LagePosted Jan 30, 2013 on Hotels

Serene and enchantingPosted Jan 7, 2013
The room was delightful and the views enchanting. We had a gorgeous room with a balcony and views out over the Johannnesburg Zoo. Breakfast was lovely but the views from the veranda were the best. I could have stayed here for longer and been completely happy. The staff could not do enough for us and the waiters were very eager and attentive.

Excellent PropertyPosted Jan 1, 2013 on Hotels
The Westcliff offers a very enjoyable option for accommodation in Jhb. It is in a great location for the Northern suburbs (very close to Rosebank shopping area); has a lovely ambience and a great pool and restaurant. Service is consistently excellent.
