Hotel OK, but poor cost/benefit ratio

“Great place to stay in Kalgoorlie”

We only stayed overnight but the room we had was great and the staff were lovely. It was also very close to town so we didnt need to drive into town

“Manager is friendly and helpful but other staff not so good”

The manager was friendly and helpful and we only saw him later. We were checked in by his assistant who was not helpful, friendly or knowledgable. I had an emergency Visa card and he did not know what it was. The hotel is old, but it has been maintained to a reasonable standard.

The hotel is withing walking distance to the main shopping area as well as one of the main tourist attractions. The hotel itself needs some cosmetic touch ups. The carpets are worn,also is there a need to have piped music in the hallway? The rooms facing the entrance (Egan Street) are very noisy (road noise). The room rate is high, but I would blame that on it being a mining town and this tends to inflate prices over what yyou would expect. The beds were comforatable and the rooms were made up very quickly once you left the hotel,

“Short stay”

Quite convenient location.The hotel is dated but has been well maintained and is clean and comfortable. The carpets could do with a good clean which might rid the place of a persistent musty smell. When I enquired about the wireless network, I was told it was $24/day but they did give me a card which entitled me to 15mins on a foyer PC. Buffet breakfast was basic continental, toast, fruit etc, hot buffet was extra.

We had an alarm call at 4.14am on a freezing morning. Stood outside for at least 30minutes- the fire brigade came - must have said everything was okay - then we all filed back inside like sheep. No explanation at the time and no explanation or information the following morning. Thought this was very slack. Dinner at night very ordinary - only ate their once.
