Great location, historic hotel

Posted Sep 10, 2014
Location: It is a block away from the Power & Light District. Crossroads area of town is also very close, as is Union Station.
Great staff at the hotel, and it is a charming place. It is a great location. Everything was fine, but the first night the room was very warm. The hotel staff was able to eventually cool it, but it was uncomfortable that first night.

Nice hotel close to KCP&L

Posted Sep 3, 2014
Stayed here over Labor Day weekend, free parking at the meters across the street. Nice view and walking distance to KCP&L., not far to drive to Westport or the Plaza. Great staff, no problems at all.

Downtown KC

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: Like the area and within walking distance to a lot of activities
For the price I absolutely thought that this would have been a classier hotel. And maybe we had this room due to going through Expedia but felt like we given the "bottom of the barrel" room". No mini fridge; no amenities. On the other hand it was nice to have a hotel within walking distance to the Sprint Center. Also the room was considerably warm even though the thermostat said 65 and we couldn't get it any cooler. Just disappointed.

Elegant older hotel

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: Comfort, decor, cleanliness, location
The hotel is easy to find and has free parking. It has been elegantly remodeled to an outstanding level of comfort. We loved downtown Kansas City, and the hotel is well positioned to enjoy everything.

Steps away from the Power and Light District

What a beautiful hotel! Friendly, courteous staff... The Hilton is 2 blocks from the power and light District, plus a block away from Consentino's Market. The rooms are plush and comfortable.

Staff Problems

Posted Jun 16, 2014
Pros: Historic hotel.
Cons: Promptness from hotel staff.
Location: Great restaurants nearby.
When I arrived to check-in, my room wasn't ready. I was told that my room should be ready in 10-15 minutes and to sit in the lobby to wait for the front desk to call my name. I sat in the lobby for 45 minutes and no one called my name. Finally I went to the front desk staff to see if my room was ready and sure enough it was. I wonder how long I sat in the lobby waiting for my room, when it was already ready? When we checked out, I asked the front desk to notify valet to get my car. The front desk told me the quickest way to get my car would be to hand my ticket to a valet person. It took over 20 minutes before anyone would take my valet ticket. After 45 minutes of waiting, my car finally arrived. I would also like to mention that people that came out after me, got their vehicles before mine came out. This is a nice hotel and it is conveniently located, but I would not recommend this hotel if you're on a schedule and need to get places quickly.

Upscale, comfortable hotel

Posted Jun 9, 2014
Cons: Need to have their own live music in their hotel bar; jazz to accent their old KC theme. No pizazz to the bar at all.
Location: Power & Light District and upscale dining.
Excellent service from check in to check out. Clean room and very comfortable bed and pillows. Good breakfast buffet-walking distance to P & l District.

I'd wanted to stay at the Hilton President for a long time. It's a classic, beautiful building with a rich history in Kansas City and, having been there for a luncheon, I'd seen some of the beautiful architecture. So perhaps my expectations were too high but it turned out to be good, but not as spectacular as I'd hoped for. The room was comfortable and nice but was no different than your average, everyday hotel room and could have been at a Hampton Inn, Marriott or any other similar chain. Generic and lacking in the style I'd imagined. Again though, there was nothing truly "wrong" about it. It's a decent value for the money at usually around $150/night, which isn't bad for downtown. Well worth staying at for business or pleasure, as long as your expectations aren't too high as mine were!
