Very friendly staff

Posted Jul 7, 2014
Pros: Staff and it's history.
Cons: Cleaner rooms.
This was my second time staying in the hotel. Very nice stays, the staff is what made it great. I lost a Rolex watch in the room and called a day later to find out they found it.

Nice hotel close to Power & Lights

Pros: Great lobby area and room service was quick and reasonable priced.
The staff was great and the rooms were clean and quiet. Only problem was they didn't have a Shuttle Driver to get us back from Country Club Plaza.

Don't stay here!!!

This as far from 4 star hotel as you can get. Rooms cramped and dingy. This place old and pieced together. It's a joke. Save money. It's like staying at super 8 only older.

Plumbing in the room was bad in tub and sink. Room was very drab and plain. Beautiful character in the building you cant take that away from it.

Grandmas Old Dusty Attic

Posted Jun 30, 2014
Pros: The Staff
Cons: Yes, The whole place needed to be cleaned. Very dirty and bed was against the way, could not get in and out easily.
Location: Went to concert at power and light district.
The staff was more than nice. They were happy and friendly. No problems there at all. But the room and as much as we spent, was crap. It was small, and when we put our stuff on the bed, dust flew up from the sheets, so then kids thought it was fun to keep hitting the bed to watch the dust fly. Then there were no plugs by the bed for phone or my cpap machine and when I went to try to find a plug in by the wall, just dust bunnies everywhere. I was grossed out and could hardly sleep. Just had to put it out of my mind. Old hotel redone but small elevator, nothing updated. Marriott was full or I would have stayed there. But needed to be close to the venue I was attending. Also had to crawl over bed to get to into it, as it was pressed against the wall, what a pain. Tried to move bed, but bolted to floor.

Great, old-feeling, but updated hotel

Posted Jun 20, 2014
Pros: Charm, location.
Location: P&L District
Stayed at the Phillips a number of times. It is a real treat to stay in a comfortable, updated hotel that still retains historic character. Rarely stay anywhere else in K.C.

Worst experience in a LONG time

Posted Jun 14, 2014
Pros: Not much after all the things I had to put up with
Cons: They need to show more hnesty when something goes wrong and they need to give people credit for a room that they did not have..DONT GET CHARGED
Location: Location was good
When seeing the original pictures we were so exited to go there..not knowing the nightmere ahead of us..... I have NEVER rated a trip before but find it neccessary to do so in this case. First thing we encountered when arriving there was transient kind of people sitting in front of the Hote..one lady crying..all sitting on the ground. some barefoot.....you would HOPE that at a Hotel like this the staff would have them removed..we felt VERY uncomertable getting out of the car..... When we checked in I was in TOTAL shock to see our room which was nothing more than a RABBIT HUTCH...small and AWFULL..... It was late and I hesitated about going downstairs to complain but I did as I could not bare to look at this room..... The front clerk, friendly as he was, explained that they had a flood at the hotel and my booked room was unavailbe.....NOT MENTIONING THIS AT CHECK IN.......... We got a different room the next night..they should NOT HAVE charged us for this horrible room for the first night..that was NOT what I had booked !!!! When our luggage was transfered it was a WORSE Nightmere as our room was not finished in the morning we were told the luggage would be transfered which is WAS NOT..everyone gave us a different story..with no luggage inside..then they brought us SOMEONE ELSES luggage insteadt and if we would NOT have been honest it would have devistaing to the other guest I can not EVEN describe ALL the things that went on with th caracters left.. Kind hotel staff, very small room.

Posted Jun 9, 2014
The hotel staff was very kind and the location was nice, as it is near the Power and Light District. The room was very, very small- much smaller than I had anticipated. Because the bathroom was so little, the sink was not even located in the bathroom.
