Very nice B&B

My wife and I were very pleased with the accommodations of the Southmoreland. From the location, staff and room everything was very delightful. Being close to the Countryclub Plaza (walking distance) with its attractions was an added bonus.

Beautifully maintained and decorated house with friendly and knowledgeable owners. Breakfast was amazing. Walking distance to the Plaza, but worlds away in serenity.

Incredible place to stay and breakfast to die for

Posted Jun 20, 2015
We stayed in the carriage suite and we loved the additional privacy it afforded being away from the main inn building. The sheets and bed were super comfy and luxurious. The room was beautiful and we would love to return in winter to experience that beautiful log burner in action. The check in is later than usual at 4.30pm but staff very accomodating allowing you to leave bags etc and they actually got the room ready early for us. The breakfast - all three courses - was gourmet, and it was a lovely touch having coffee brought to the room early. Being English I suppose it would be the final icing on the cake to have a little in room kettle and few tea bags to make oneself something. The hotel supply glasses and a wet bar though so one really cant complain! We will be back - the biggest complement one can ever give :)

Pleasantly secluded but near everything

Exactly as pictured, very quiet and pleasant. Surprisingly secluded for being near everything. Owners were great. Very professional but comfortable as well. Excellent breakfast. We will be back.

Southmoreland Hospitality is on point

Posted Dec 28, 2014 on Hotels
I surprised my fiance with this hotel while we were in town looking for places to live. I can't say enough about how great this husband and wife bed and breakfast is-from the complimentary 5 star breakfast to the turn down service and homemade cookies at night. The location is steps from the plaza and central to all other attractions in the city.

A Hidden Treasure of Luxury

Posted Oct 26, 2014 on Hotels
This charming bed and breakfast provided the foundation for a perfect Kansas City overnight within walking distance to the PLAZA. The accommodations were so luxurious, along with a breakfast that exceeded any five star restaurant! The owners couldn't be more gracious. It was like staying at a dear friends' home for the night. Simply spectacular!

So Charming!

Pros: The atmosphere. Great breakfast. The warm cookies.
Cons: It would be great to get a tour of the home. I would love to know about the history behind the Southmoreland. Better photos of the rooms.
Location: The Plaza was within easy walking distance. The JC Nichols fountain and the St. Lukes hiking trail were so close that we enjoyed a nice morning walk.
My husband and I spent several days in Kansas City. We stayed at three different locations. This was our first destination. It is a beautiful facility in a great location if you want to walk around the Plaza or visit the Nelson Atkins. I am from Kansas City and found the book left on our bed that detailed some of the famous citizens from the past was fascinating. I think very few individuals that are from Kansas City know that there actually were people named Winstead. The room was very quiet and relaxing. We loved the porch off of our room. Fortunately we didn't have neighbors. There were three porches sided by side. We were able to enjoy the area by ourselves. Don't expect a big room, but a cozy place with lovely touches. The fresh cut roses from the garden were lovely. The staff was pleasant and the breakfast was very good. Different than what you would get at a regular hotel.

Great Romantic Getaway

Posted Aug 13, 2014 on Hotels
Me and my wife came here for our one year anniversary and it was amazing. When you get there they serve drinks and hors d'oeuvres, more drinks in your room, then cookies and hot tea at night, and top it off a great breakfast in the morning. The hotel staff were great and gave us some local restaurants to try out. We stayed in the William Gilliss room. It was a fun little room with a balcony. The only downfall to the room was its size, it barely had room for the bed and our things. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a romantic getaway.
