Great stay

Pros: the room was just renovated-very nice
Cons: parking could be closer to the upstairs rooms-no elevator
Close to downtown shopping but a little hard to locate.

Hotel is under construction and needs to complete some more work before renting out rooms. While our room was nicely furnished and extremely clean, the high speed internet did not work and there was not hot water in the shower. Also the signage was yet to be completed and the exterior entrances were not as yet keyed to permit entrance to and from.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. Very helpful staff combined with updated rooms and cleanliness more than make up for lackluster outward appearance. Very satisfied with this room for price, location, and service.

Gouging the weary traveller

While driving to Thunder Bay with a young family, 5lb yorkie and a 28 ft u-haul we pulled in at after 9pm. Having prepaid we got our key and went to our room. Minutes later the phone rings and it is the front desk asking for a credit card number and an additional $75 because we had a dog. The credit card I can understand but we picked this hotel because it allowed pets. Having already driven for 16 hours we were in no condition to find somewhere else, so I was forced to pay this outrageous fee. It cost more for the dog to stay then it did per person. I'll sleep in my truck next time.

New owner overbooks rooms

Booked a non-smoking room. Hotel clerk, a very nice gal, discovered that I had been booked in the wrong type of room. She tried repeatedly to get owner/manager to correct it, and he would not. He brought me to a room which had old carpets soaked with the odor of cigarette smoke. New owner is trying to upgrade facility. Does not appear to know much about customer service. I've never written a review before; my first one. If you can book at another location, I'd highly advise you to do so. Finally, kudos to Hotels dot Com. Made booking my travel locations extremely easy and fast. Whatever infrastructure you guys set up, it works well. Thanks again.
