Review the booking carefully
We were excited to book this amazing hotel but were embarrassed when we arrived for check in and told we were actually staying across the street and canal in their ‘other’ hotel. They couldn’t find us on the check in list and then it was ‘oh there you are, you’re staying over there…’We still had access to the restaurant and fitness area but we had to bundle up each time and it took all of the magic out of the stay. With the exception of one photo on the hotels.com of the other hotel, there was no indication at all that we were staying elsewhere. With none of the convenience of the actual Pupp hotel, or access to room service etc. There wasn’t even a hotel services book in our room. We felt very removed and lesser than the other guests.

Best hotel I've ever stayed in. Physically beautiful with an attentive staff and excellent amenities. I was fortunate to be there during a very low tourist season so we had easy access to all spa amenities at all times without a wait. Be careful about which Pupp property your room is in. The Riverside and Parkside facilities are all connected but the Quisisnana property is across a river. When we arrived we found out we were in Quisisnana and payed an extra 50 Euro a night to upgrade to riverside - well worth it as our frequent spa trips would have been much more difficult. The area itself was gorgeous amidst heavy snow. But the hotel was the star of the show for us.

Historical property. Grand common space. Booked a corner suite in the old section but carpet & furniture are worn. Spa facilities okay but not spectacular. Food in hotel restaurants were excellent. Breakfast is excellent. Casino underwhelming. Worth it as first trip to KV but probably would stay elsewhere next time.

Beautiful property with an amazing breakfast included. Really the only point I’d make is that for a 5* spa hotel the bathrooms in the new part of the hotel were really small, brown and basic. We had a great time. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great history that hotel might want to do a better job of presenting. Nice location but a long ways from train station. Experience would be greatly improved if hotel negotiated with taxi drivers to stop charging excessive prices and taking circuitous routes. With global warming, temperatures in Carlsbad are much warmer than in the past. Hotel would benefit from installing air conditioning in rooms. At present common areas such as restaurant have a/c but rooms do not. And there is little ventilation or air circulation.

I can't believe this hotel is 5 stars. It only looks luxury from outside. This hotel is just a hype. We booked the superior room which is in the main building. The room was very outdated. The bathroom in this room was completely different from what we booked. Their website doesn't have a picture of the bathroom that we got, so be careful when you book dont trust the pictures. The shower stall in the bathroom was old and tiny, similar to the size you would get on the cruise ship. It only had a small handheld shower head. I uploaded the pictures of the bathroom, and you won't find this on their website. We wanted to change the room since it didn't look even near to what we booked, and we were told that there were no other rooms available. There were no outlets on each side of the bed to charge the phones. The outlets were located in very inconvenient places. This hotel has a spa with the pool and sauna. There was no place in our bathroom where we could hang wet swimsuits to dry. It wasn't thought out. Their breakfast was limited, and every day, they would serve the same thing with no variation. On weekends, if you go to eat after 9 am, expect to stay in the line because they dont have enough seats to accommodate everyone......

As the building is a protected historical monument, we have a duty to preserve the style of the era, but we also cherish the history and tradition of our house while we pursue excellence in our level of service.This age of the building gives it a unique charm, elegance and ambiance, but also some challenges such as the different room layouts when each room is different in size and layout, public hallways etc. For the past 5 years, we have been undergoing extensive renovations throughout the hotel, which our guests can follow on our website. We have successfully revamped the Premier category, and recently introduced a brand-new category of rooms and studios, Pupp Modern, on 2 floors in the Parkside building.For the next 2 years, we have planned to redesign the other rooms and suites. Overall positive but some disappointments
Gorgeous property, quality and nicely presented meals, including the buffet breakfast. Location is great. Check in was very smooth and welcoming with excellent bellhop service. Room was well appointed and surfaces entirely clean but there were two problems. First, we were located in the "dependent" building -- a beautiful adjacent palace -- which was fine except that the wireless wouldn't access internet. It took a full day and several queries to get the front desk to send a technician to the room. Whereas registration insisted that we shouldn't have been having any problem, when a technician was finally sent they arrived at the room with a portable router, acknowledging that it was already known that the main wifi didn't reach our building. Second, even while all surfaces were very clean and well kept, there was a weird odor in parts of the room that must have been some sort of mildew in the wall or flooring -- we couldn't determine where it came from but were told there was no availability for us to be moved to an alternative room. Despite these two disappointments, so much else was very good that we would overall recommend.

Some great but disappointing room view and service
So much to like about this hotel. It's part of history, lovely spa, great town. However, the view from my Premier Suite (their most expensive category) was mediocre at best despite two emails saying view was the most important aspect of the room for me and assurance it would be great. Well, it was the hotel's carpark and impossible to change once there. Restaurant was hit and miss - fabulous lobster bisque, good beef on cream sauce, horrible chanterelles, but the dining room is certainly pretty. Staff interaction varied, but overall not the friendliest, at times, you felt you were seen more as an inconvenience than as a guest. I'll be back but my expectations will be much lower.

The resort is surrounded by a magical city that in present times very peaceful without the usual tourist crowds. Our suite was extremely comfortabe with large living area, bedroom and bath. Closets and storage were generous. Nespresso coffee maker with creamrers provided anytime coffee. Our massages were amazing. The pool and spa area were enjoyable and well planned. Breakfast was outstanding and the food was delicious. All hotel personnel were very pleasant and helpful.

A superb stay
Fabulous hotel, friendly and helpful staff, spacious bedrooms with wonderfully comfortable bed, superb breakfast. We enjoyed the swimming pool and wished we could have stayed longer to use the Spa. It was like stepping back in history (but with modern convenience). I hope to return one day.

This hotel is legendary, what else to say about it? We had a great experience staying here. The staff was excellent, especially Jana in the spa. The only issue was with booking the "dependency" room on Expedia which is actually in a building across the street from the hotel. It is newly renovated in old world glamor style and completely gorgeous but we really wanted to stay in the main hotel. The hotel staff kindly accommodated us with a slight fee. The only other downside is that there was no tile or photo of Queen Latifah'l, who made this hotel famous in the US, with her movie Last Holiday. That was the main reason we went to Karlovy Vary and stayed at this hotel. I sincerely hope that the hotel can remedy this.

Amazing experience
A wonderful five star hotel with all the services and amenities you would expect. I stayed in a Riverside suite overlooking the river. It was a beautiful setting and I loved the room. Very elegant and spacious. I ate in the cafe and the lobby bar for all meals. The breakfast was excellent. The service in each place, including room service was also excellent. As a single woman traveling this is a safe location to roam the town day or night. I used the pool and the spa to get s massage. My masseuse was excellent. His name was Zdenek. I hope I got that right. The concierge, Tomas, was quite helpful also. If you want to stay in a very beautiful town, in a historic 1701 hotel with all the modern conveniences but still maintains its grandeur and so clean, I highly recommend GrandHotel Pupp!
