“Relief from Kathmandu's slums”
I booked a night at the Hyatt on my return from my trek to Everest base camp and Island Peak. I figured that I needed some R&R as well as a change from the tiresome squalor of Kumbu's teahouses and the dust and filth on the road. The Hyatt is situated on several acres and is fenced off from the surrounding dirt, noise and chaos of Kathmandu's city neighbourhoods. It is truly a relief to enter the hotel's grounds and the quiet, peacefulness and cleanliness of the hotel is fantastic. The staff are very attentive and constantly attend to your every need and request. I ate breakfast and dinner at the buffet restaurant and everything was delicious. The food was a mixture of Western dishes, and Indian/Nepalese/Asian dishes. My only complaint, and the reason I am giving the hotel a rating of 4, is that I developed severe diarrhoea and vomiting 36 hours afterwards. I assume this was from something I ate at the hotel, as I never ate anywhere else.
“Superb Hotel in Kathmandu”
nice clean rooms with cozy bed, quality food , nice outdoor swimming pool
“Great place to stay in Kathmandu // No need to look elsewhere”
The hotel was just right: good location and better rate. Great service on check-in -- they actually read the remarks I'd added during the Expedia booking. And as such, exceeded both my requests and expectations. After 3 weeks in India (at 50C, no less!), it was great to be welcomed as we were. The restaurant meals were of good quality and the breakfast buffet was very nice. Outdoors, they have three pools arranged in a very nice setting. Though two of the pools were unheated, the third was just perfect. Warm, not hot and with a few jets spread around. Wonderful. The room was large and had both a big shower as well as a tub. They were attentive to our desires and went out of their way on our room service requests. Overall, the stay was outstanding.
“Great hotel, great location”
This hotel was clean, modern, beautiful, and well-situated just down the street from the Boudanath Stupa. I was a little concerned when the power went out three times during the first hour after I checked in, but soon realized that they had backup power that was simply kicking in to cover for outages that are regularly (and sometimes irregularly) scheduled in Kathmandu. In short, they did what they could. Showers were excellent... hot water and water pressure comparable to a fire hose. Nice view of the Stupa and excellent, yet affordable, breakfast buffets. I'll stay here again when I visit.
“Great, If Overpriced”
Stayed at this hotel with my new wife, a sort of a prelude to our real honeymoon later. Great location, great service, friendly staff, with a somewhat decent view of Kathmandu Valley - but I highly question the rather high price when there appeared to be 20% occupancy rate. I should've gotten a discount! Instead, I was charged full price. I requested the "Stupa View", which is supposed to get you a room with a view of Boudhanath, but my view of the stupa was mostly blocked by a neighboring residential water tower. Not worth the 10% price markup. The air conditioner's very weak, and my two attempts at plugging in my charger shorted out the electricity. However, maintenance was very quick in resolving the issues - and considering that rest of Nepal has only few hours of electricity per day, it's a very small setback. The staff was the friendliest I've ever met, and one lady who was able to deduce that we were newly married sent up a surprise "congratulations" cake the next morning! I would come again - but considering the better values of other local hotels, I would ask Hyatt to reevaluate its non-peak room pricings first - and to do something about that water tower!
“Recommended”
I don't know if I would be in a hurry or return to Kathmandu but if I ever did I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. It was great. The rooms were great, the staff great, the pool, grounds, restaurants, everything was great. I really liked the hotel despite not being impressed with Kathmandu.
“Outstanding location, service, amenities and food.”
An oasis amidst the madness of Kathmandu the Hyatt is the finest location in the city. Splurge for the Club level room and you will be pampered with outstanding Nepali service during breakfast and the very filling cocktail happy hour. Gym and spa on sight are an added bonus.
