Nice hotel, beautiful sandy beach.

Posted Jan 21, 2014
Pros: Beach, pool, hot tub, and close to town.
Cons: Less roosters
Location: bike rentals next door, beach and pathway out front, shopping and resturants right there, close to safeway and longs.

pono kai private owner

Posted Jan 13, 2014
Pros: the place itself is a nice place in a nice location.
Cons: updating.
Location: near downtown Kapaa within walking distance. and right on the ocean.
we have stayed at Pono Kai many times before , this time it was a private owner. we had no towel service no cleaning service, and no air conditioning. it was also advertised as a queen bed, which it was not. we had to wash our own towels in a coin operated laundry at the end of the hall. this is used by all in the building , so good luck with that. Had we known this before our stay we would have stayed elsewhere. for the price we paid , we could have stayed in a much nicer place. live and learn.

Pros: Grounds, Rooms, Kitchen, View, Barbeque grill, landscaping.
Location: Hanalei, Kilauea Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge, Opaekaa Falls, Kilohana Luau, Spouting Horn, Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Snorkling on Coconut Coast.
Vacation of a lifetime. Close to shopping. Great Views. Close to supermarket and within walking distance of a small food market (Pono Market) that makes great food including Pork Lai Lai

Can't get any closer to the surf, but...

Posted Aug 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
The location is very good. You can't get any closer to the surf but the room was very dated and tattered. The acoustics in the room are poor. The sounds carry from all adjoining rooms. The furniture was not very comfortable. Would not book that room again.

Greatest adventure in Kauai

Posted Jul 14, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: Thin walls and ceiling transfer virtually every noises from naighbors
Location: Kapaa is a nice old town and convenient to various activities
Convenient location for shopping and various activities, but that'all...room is not clean at all and noisy environment. No 6 digit access code to the room was provided by Expedia, nor Pono Kai Resort in advance.

Great choice, right price

Posted Jul 8, 2013
Pros: Beautiful ocean view, very close to the beach front
Cons: I would have liked for my room to have air conditioning
Location: Pono Kai is situated well within walking distance of food, shopping and tourist services. An excellent, quiet neighborhood for an excellent rate.
This resort consists of many different condo-style rooms, each unique in its own way. My particular unit did not come with air conditioning, however given the wonder Kauai weather, this was unimportant to me. Overall, I was very satisfied with the facilities, staff and overall condition of Pono Kai resort. I was much closer to the beach than I had anticipated, much to my pleasant surprise. I will definitely refer this resort to friends and family, and should I have reason to visit Kauai again, I'd love to stay there again.

Ok but would not stay again

Pros: Spacious Grounds and the views. Attend the resort orientation meeting. They do a lot of two for one raffle prizes for things to do on the island.
Cons: Have A/C in all units and do something about the noise from the upstairs units (not acceptable)
Location: The resort is located just a few minutes walk from the historic center of Kapaa and several eating places and shopping places.
This is an older resort (I would say built in the 70's) Some of the units look to be updated and some are not. The two bedroom ocean front room we stayed in was for the most part clean but old, warn and dated. The views were great. We stayed on a first floor end unit(NOT RECOMENDED). There are first floor and second floor units. Although you may have to walk up stairs it would be worth it to stay on a second floor unit. You can hear everything from the people up stairs if you are staying in a first floor unit. Walking, opening drawers, showing and flushing the toilets (everything). We were woken up promptly at 6:00am every morning by the people upstairs walking around. Some of the units have air and some do not (ours did not) for the most part we were able to tolerate it but I would recommend trying to get A/C.

Pono Kai

Posted May 21, 2013
Pros: Good staff, good location, beautiful views.
Cons: Condo managers were not located at the hotel
Location: Very good
The room was nice with a beautiful view. All appliances worked well, and the grounds were well maintained. My only gripe was with the bed. Absolutely terrible. The mattress was lumpy/soft,and the bedside tables were flush with the bed such that the table top actually hung into the bed by a 1/2 inch. As a result as I tossed and turned due to the lousy mattress, I kept hitting my head against the tabletop. I finally gave up and slept on the floor for the last 4 days.

We enjoyed our stay. The room did not have air conditioning so we were dependent on the ocean breeze which sometimes was non existant. Portable fans did help a little. The room was comfortable but would prefer a room with Air Conditioning. A little more detail needs to be given to cleaning, dust was hanging off the bedroom cieling fan which we cleaned ourselves. We have stayed at Pono Kai before and have always enjoyed our stay. Location is great! We would stay there again. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
