Property Amenities

The Kiahuna Plantation offers guests an opportunity to experience, in contemporary comfort, the 19th-century Hawaiian era of sugar plantations and prim missionaries. Widely spaced on 33 acres of natural grounds and interspersed with gardens and lava-rock ponds, 42 white plantation-style buildings face Poipu Beach, once declared by the world's foremost expert as America's best. Access to upper floors is by outside stairs, not elevators. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available near the front desk.

Landscaped grounds include a cactus garden, traditional Hawaiian garden, large orchids, and even water lily ponds. Guests have access to a lagoon, barbeque areas, tennis courts, and a next-door swimming pool.

The front desk can arrange golf outings, helicopter sightseeing trips, luaus, and all other activities available on Kauai; the desk can also rents out videotapes and arrange massage sessions. A beach hut rents out snorkel sets and boogie boards, and provides complimentary towels and beach chairs.

Plantation Gardens Restaurant - Hailed as one of Hawaii's best, this spacious restaurant occupies much of the Kiahuna Plantation's original manor house. The manor was a 1930 wedding gift to Alexandra "Sandie" Knudsen and Hector Moir from her father, who inherited Hawaii's first (1835) sugar plantation from his parents. Walls display photographs chronicling plantation history. Under ceiling fans, dining is inside or on a wraparound veranda overlooking gardens and ponds. Wood floors and big wicker chairs evoke an earlier era and slower-paced atmosphere. The shaded bar has its own veranda. Diners are attracted by inventive, contemporary Hawaiian fare featuring local fish and other items.

Recreation

Kiahuna Plantation includes four tennis courts (two lighted). Kiahuna Golf Course is just a three-minute drive away, and the renowned Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course is 10 minutes away. On Kauai, recreational opportunities abound, including those listed below.

“Very nice”

My stay was great, beautiful grounds, big area, beach was very nice. Room was clean, though housekeeping tended to come a little too early in the morning for my taste. No complaints, I would recommend this place to anyone.

“Nothing fancy but comfortable”

The room was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking. The grounds were lovely and well kept and we enjoyed the walk through the garden down to the beach. This is not a five star hotel by all means, but it is clean and comfortable and an affordable place to stay on Kaui. We would definately go back!

Family-friendly activities

Snorkeling on the beach at the resort was fantastic! Also would recommend a guided Kayak trip up the Wailua river and then hiking to the Secret Falls, this was a four hour trip and so much fun. Zippling at Kipu ranch is also a "must do" on the island, a little pricey but totally worth it. We went a 5 hour zip tour that included swimming a luch at the end. Lastly, if you haven't tried "paddleboarding" this is the right place to try. My kids and I were suprised how fun and easy it is.

“Nice but not as good”

I stayed at the same place 5 years ago and had a great time and that is why I chose the same place this time. Although I did get a smaller unit, I was dispointed how squeeky the bed was, and the toliet was so close to the wall it was hard to use. It is a beautiful property, and its a great location. I probably would not stay here again though.

“Oct in Kauai . . .”

Great Condo to rent! Great place to relax! And Great place to be in Kauai! Not, Only draw back is . . . NO Air Conditioning. Has BBQ for stay dining, kitchen, etc, but NO AIR CONDITIONING.

“Good hotel with some exceptions.”

The main complaint was road noise. I didn't see that the hotel rooms were unairconditioned, so there is no way to close off the room. Since the room we had was close to the main road, there was a lot of road noise (and noise from roosters at 3 am). Also, the room was a bit dated in that the carpet and counters were a bit past prime. Overall, we had a great time. The hotel location is great, the grounds are really beautiful, the beach is fantastic and the restaurant is really nice. I would go back, as long as I could get a room away from the main road.

Area recommendations

It's hard to beat Kauai.

“Middle of the Road”

Positive: Great location in central Poipu - on the beach and right next to a shopping plaza. Decent price for the value. Very clean. Free Parking. Negative: This is more of a serve yourself kind of place. The pool is located across the street which is inconvenient. It is a large property, so the garden view rooms are very far away from the beach, it is almost easier to drive there. The front desk is not so friendly or helpful. Expect only the basics here.

“Wonderful!”

Great condo with everything we could want. Very clean, spacious, comfortable with nice patio area, king sized comfortable bed, kitchen with all appliances (nicer than my home ones)/dishes, good shower/bathroom, all tastefully decorated-VERY nice! It was also located practically at the start of the Kauai Marathon, which we were running, so it was the perfect place for us-couldn't have asked for anything better :)

“Mixed Feelings”

Upon driving into the resort we couldn't get over the beauty of the lush tropical landscaping with such a huge array of flora and ponds. We were pleasantly surprised by the decent ocean view we got with our garden suite and the practical amenities. On the negative side, we soon noticed the sound of the constant traffic coming from the street just behind our room that seemed to get louder later in the evening. I finally got smart ,four sleepless nights later and found some ear plugs that seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately after that, I was awakened by a huge cockroach crawling up my arm. Eeww! I know I can't blame the resort for the island's roaches but it was a little unsettling. Would love to stay again but just a little farther away from the busy road.

“Returning next Labor Day weekend for the Kaua'i Marathon!”

The hotel was very accommodating of my needs as a marathon entrant. I like the kitchen and being able to prepare my own meals, and having Internet access to my work as well while in Poipu.
