Nice place to stay!Posted Nov 13, 2013
Pros: The location! and the beds were very comfortable.
Cons: The buildings are looking a little old, but still I would recommend this place to friends.
Location: Access to the beaches, and just outside the town was perfect.
If you want a nice place to stay and be close to the beautiful beaches, this is a great place to stay. The staff are very friendly too.

Hanalei Colony reviewPosted Nov 11, 2013
We really loved staying here...it was a beautiful location. Juan & Steven were very personable and real. The shuttle driver, Joe gave us some good beach iand touring suggestions. We like the remote North Shore location. We were on our honeymoon and stayed one week. I would highly recommend it to our friends and family. We met one of the local artists, Mercedes Maza. She owns the ART & SOUL Gallery in Hanalei. One of her paintings of the "Hula Dancer" was in K3. LOVELY ARTWORK!

Right by beach. The premium rooms on beach frontPosted Nov 4, 2013
Pros: It is right by beach, and it takes you away from the hustle and bustle of cities.
Location: Trails, beaches, shopping, and lovely people.
It is a very lovely area. Everyone is very nice. Be ready for a windy road with many wonderful trails, scenery, and beaches to visit. It is nice they now have a van for transportation, but it one should rent a car to see other areas of island.

Old style charm - needs an updatePosted Sep 16, 2013
There are some real positives about the Colony Resort. The service level from the staff is really good, (e.g. on checking in, the fellow at the front desk was very helpful about local info and even loaned us a guide book without prompting). The guys who maintain the gardens do a great job and we thought our room, (whilst old and tired) was kept very clean. The resort seems to be the closest option to the Napali coastline unless you stay in a rental house. The Shuttle service to Ke'e is great as the beach that the resort in on is not suitable for swimming. Steve at the Concierge was very helpful and friendly The issues 1. Noise - If you stay in building B (as we did) or C, you are right next to the parking lot for the Hotel but also the restaurant next door, (we tried to move after one night but we were told that wasn't possible as it was busy but that didn't quite accord with the number of rooms taken in the resort and it seemed to be an issue that we'd booked thru Expedia). Also, if you are on the ground floor you are at the mercy of the people on the second level. We had a family above us and it sounded like a herd of baby elephants running across the ceiling most of the time. 2. Internet Connection - the guy on the front desk warned us this was variable and fickle - that was an understatement !! It really was painful & frustrating 3. It is what it is - i.e. old style timber construction - that was fine for us and it has charm but it wouldn't suit everyone

Awesome Stay in KauaiPosted Aug 26, 2013
Pros: Staff and Scenery
Location: This is the North Shore and is a condo. So everything is a little bit of a drive. If you are looking for place to relax that is beautiful-this is it
The pictures on Expedia did this beautiful place no justice. The setting was unbelievable. We could see the sun rise every morning from our window, and even better were able to eat breakfast and watch the sun rise on our patio. The staff, Steven in particular, was awesome. Always knew what events to go to whether we were looking for a real Hawaiian luau, Helicopter ride OR even a kayak hiking adventure at one of Kauai's rivers in the rain forest. This place, staff and scenery were unbelievable.

Family vacation in HanaleiPosted Aug 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
Better than expected. The accommodations were very comfortable for our family and the location is fabulous and on the ocean. Only a few minutes from the town of Hanalei and access to the Napali Coast in either direction. The shuttle bus at the resort made traveling to beaches and not having to park our car VERY convenient. The drivers had intimate knowledge of the area and were extremely helpful in planning our outings. No TV's or phones in rooms meant great family time and the front desk had a lot of old school board games. There were grills in several parts of the resort where guests could cook and eat looking out at the ocean or by the pool. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

A Haven of TranquilityPosted Aug 12, 2013
Pros: I appreciated the kindness of the staff, the excellent pool, proximity to the great beaches, and the "unplugged" experience of no phones/ no TVs.
Cons: Our particular unit, B-1, has some problems with the kitchen, particularly a broken refrigerator shelf and drawer and dated appliances in general.
Location: On-site restaurant, spa, coffeeshop; nearby beaches for swim and snorkel; town of Hanalei has restaurants, shops, beaches for surfing, & rentals.
I recently stayed at this resort for 11 nights, with my mother and daughter. We sought a place that was quiet and on the water. Hanalei Colony Resort met and exceeded our expections. The staff, in particular, is friendly and helpful. We needed a first-floor unit because my mother cannot negotiate steps, and the staff guaranteed this for us. Bedding and linens are good quality, and beds are comfortable. The pool/barbeque area are recently updated, and are beautiful, although somewhat noisy because they are next to the road. The next-door restaurant and luau were convenient and good quality; on-site spa, coffeeshop, and art gallery are nice touches. The Hanalei Colony Resort van is a wonderful addition, transporting guests to nearly beaches as well as in to Hanalei. This is a great convenience, because the parking at the excellent area beaches is limited, and dinners were more enjoyable when we didn't have to worry about driving home on the dark, narrow road. Note that, while on the water, the beach in front of the resort is not a swimming beach. The view across the water, however, toward Hanalei, is beautiful. There is no AC in these units, but the breezes kept the condo comfortable. Also, the Wireless Internet worked like a charm. Tropical Storm Flossie visited Kauai during our stay. The staff made certain that we had directions for evacuation, which thankfully were not needed, as well as extra candles, matches, flashlights, and drinking water.
