This hotel is walking distance from the beach

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: the hotel was right by the beach great location shopping near by. quiet area
Cons: Nothing at this time room where nice location was good and staff was nice. The only thing I was not happy with was that we had to get another room.
Location: Location is near shopping mall which has a great amount of little shops to do your shopping needs. rooms are near pool and beach. clean rooms.
We just stayed there overnight so not much to really say only that its near the beach and near shopping stores for you shopping needs. Hotel is clean and very quiet. Beach is just a few steps away for you room. . They serve continental breakfast. room where big and clean. Would recommend that if you wanted something near the beach this would be your location to stay at.

Well worth price, heard property owners changed

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Everything and everyone, including the staff giving us their personal utensils : )The hotel does not supply them.
Cons: Continental breakfast to maybe include oatmeal, bagels and toast. As well as a different juice on different days vs the one juice for our stay.
Location: Coconut Market place is nearby with bus line 500 stopping going north (from Lihue to Hananapi). It's also a popular destination with the cruise ships
For the time we arrived to the time we left we felt we got a good deal and made a great decision. The front desk allows guests to put luggage in their holding(storage) room for early-late departures. We changed our clothes in the lobby's restrooms, their not fancy but their clean. The beach is literally right there and so is one of their pools with the marbled fire pit, you can see them when you check in, including our assigned rooms. There are long pieces of slab rocks when you go in the water, but compared to some of the other beaches on Kauai it wasn't to bad on the feet. Than less than 1/4 mile (a 5 min walk) they have a "Coconut marketplace" its filled with shops, places to grab a quick bit to eat & drinks. The hotel called us when our rooms, arranged taxis and shuttles are knowledgeable in answering any questions we had on the points of interest and sights . The rooms were amazingly clean you can tell they had recently renovated. The bathroom is on the small side, you have the tub, toilet and sink in one. I would have preferred more vanity space but the main thing is the AC works great. Housekeeping staff is wonderful. The property security guards are courteous, polite & quiet. Continental breakfast is small but they keep it stocked-croissants, bear claws, three assorted type of donuts & bananas besides coffee and juice. They do have a microwave, toaster & filtered cold/hot water system. Each room has a fridge, closet grocery store is about a 15 min walk, Safeway.

Hidden jewel in kauai

We were very pleased with our stay at Kauai Shores right on the beach, nice pool, continental breakfast. My one complaint was parking. NOT very good and you have to pay extra to park your car, REALLY. WHY NOT add a litttle extra to the room rate, for cripe sakes, so disgusting to try and scam extras out of tourists. Just chincey if you ask me. How would my friends feel if I asked them over and then charged them to park. Just sayin.

Nice place parking close to room

I at the sands for a lot of years. I like the place. They have been upgrading the rooms. That has made the price go up. The $9 parking seems a little much.

Cons: Change the beds!
Location: It's very convenient.
Hotel looked great. Was wonderfully refurbished since the last time I was there. The continental breakfast and the staff were very helpful. Although they did seem to be a bit understaffed. The room was very clean and nice but I didn't care for the style of bed. However, considering the value, it was very good overall.

Nice hotel for your money

Overall our experience was good except for the fact that only one outlet in the room worked and there was a 21st birthday party going on loudly next door on the balcony. The walls aren't very thick and you can hear everything from the neighboring balconies. That being said, the staff was awesome, the room was clean, and the king size bed was very comfortable!

Good value all things considered.

This place must have been awesome 30 years ago. Now, it's a bit run down and definitely showing its age. That said, the hotel was right on the beach, the bed was comfortable, and the room was really clean. Good value.

cheap for a reason

Posted Apr 14, 2014
Pros: The bed and linens were the only redeeming thing in this place.
Cons: Renovate the entire place.
Location: Nothing wrong with the location.
The fridge was a relic from before I was born i.e. seems like 50 years old. The carpets were deplorable. The place needs to be gutted or rebuilt. The beach area is not bad. The resort south of this one and next to the Hawaiian sacred site had a kids pool area made with lava piled up making a very calm area for children and even in quite rough water. We arrived right after a storm and the ocean is quite rough. No fault of the hotel and didn't affect the review.
