Pros: location
Cons: get signage with address in front of hotel fix the squeaky floor in bedroom when you walk across the room
Location: good restaurants, beaches so many things within an hour!
one thing negative is NO signage. We drove up and down the street with people in gas stations and other hotels trying to find this place. It is known as Pono Kai on the street with no address. It wasn't until we got into reception area that you saw the name Pacific Fantasy

Summer vacation

Posted Jun 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
PRO: 1) we got an unexpected Ocean (side view) 1 bedroom which was nice. 2) Location is centrally in KAPAA 3) 1 bedroom was very roomy w/ decent size balcony. 4) beach is only few steps away CON: 1) living room sofa had a strong odor which we could smell upon entering the room 2) pool was quite small

OK Place

The condos are good just a bit old and smelly. Try to get the room on the top floor b/c the bulding is made of wood panels - you can hear everything. Also, dont get the row of the buildings on the side of the highway - it is terribly noisy.

Central location

Pono Kai is an older condo facility with a central location in Kapa'a. Staff is friendly and efficient. Hotel concierge is also looking to book you for a condo pitch, but not overly aggressive, and there could be a good deal or two in return for 2-3 hours of your time. There is easy beach access and a 2+ mile trail that follows the shore line if you'd rather walk on a paved surface. The pool area is small but adequate. Pool towels are available. The exercise facility is very small and will never be confused with an exercise facility at a newer condo or hotel. The unit we had was appropriately sized, good kitchen with reasonable mix of equipment and cleaning supplies, but no cooking supplies beyond salt and pepper, comfortable living area. Construction just south of town makes traffic through Kapa'a challenging at times (took us 1/2 hour to go 2 miles on several days), but there is a bypass road that can get you around most of the mess - go right out of Pono Kai, make a left at the ABC store, go 3/4 around the roundabout (about 1/2 mi away), and you'll wind up missing most of the traffic. About 1 hour to Waimea canyon and 45 minutes to Hanalei.
