“Fair Value for what we paid”

On check in we ended up with other than what we requested. The next day when this was noted they quickly corrected and moved us to the unit requested. Only negative experience was one day the maid forgot our unit. We had a few minor issues, garbage disposal stopped and a light over the sink started flickering during a 2 week stay. Both of these items where very quickly fixed and done while we were out of the unit. Nice grounds good desk service and friendly staff.

Area recommendations
The Kapaa area is centrally located, but the beaches at Poipu are the best.
Must see
Snorkelling at Poipu and take the Allerton garden tour. Be sure to visit Anni Beach. Dinnner at the Hukalua Lani is worth every penny.

“Great for the price!”

We watched beautiful sunrises from our lanai, a short walk to the beach. Close to Kapaa's restaurants and shopping. I would go there again.

Area recommendations
We liked the East side because it was closer to north and south areas.
Events and shows
Went to Smith family Luau in Kapaa, great food and entertaining show.

“Good Value”

Very nice staff trying to provide good service where there's not much to work with. Hotel is not on the beach, but it's in a quiet location with lots of green space around it. Very pleasant. Our main complaint was the living room furniture was very uncomfortable and plastic. Couldn't sit for long. Maybe that's a good thing!

Area recommendations
This place is right in the middle of the south shore, fairly close to lots of activities. We thought the Poipu area was the nicest, both for the most sun and activities.
What to pack
Don't take more than a carry-on to Kauai. Pack only cool, loose fitting clothes. You'll wear the same thing every day after you figure out what's the most comfortable.

“Great location, terrible beds!”

My sisters and I have stayed at this condo several times. We love the location and you get a lot for the money. We felt like the room could have been cleaner and the beds were very uncomfortable.

“Good economy hotel with great location”

This hotel is definitely not a "high end" condo but was a great value for the price. The location is great (especially for 1st time visitors) because it was an easy drive to the west, south, and north sides of the island. I highly recommend spending the extra money for the "scenic/ocean" view because not only will you get a better view but the noise is much less than the rooms that face towards the larger highway. Our two complaints were that they could use a bit more cookware (e.g.-there was an oven but no cookware to use...not even a cookie sheet) and the sofa in the living room was uncomfortable.

Area recommendations
We loved the beaches in the south side of the island and the north side although staying on the east side is a good alternative for those who want to explore the full island.

“Pretty good!”

When we booked a room at the Plantation Hale, we knew it wasn't going to be a fancy place. When we got there, we was a little disappointed with the condition of the room, even though we didn't have super high expectations. Although very clean, the room could really stand to be updated - new beds, new shower/tub inserts, and a new hidabead in the living room. If they made these updates, it would be a more comforatable place. We did really like the fact that it wasn't resorty and it was quiet. The hotel staff were super nice as well. The pool was never crowded since there are 3 on the property, so that was great. Even though it was a little more ghetto than expected, it turned out a great place to stay and save some money. I would stay there again :)

Area recommendations
We love Kapaa!!! It's in the middle of the island so it's easy to get to the north and south ends, and it has great restaurants and things to do!

“Great Condo Value”

We were very pleased with Plantation Hale. It was perfect for our needs and the east side location was great. Our unit had a king size bed in the bedroom and we also utilized the fold out couch in the living room, which I found to be comfortable. We also enjoyed the two cable TV's in the condo, and the blue ray DVD player. You can check out free movies at the front desk. You can also check out beach towels at the front desk which was nice, no need to bring your own. We also used the kitchen for breakfast, lunch items and left overs. We utilized the 4 cup coffee maker with supplied coffee on a daily basis, however a larger coffeemaker would have been more convenient. Most amenities you need in the kitchen with the exception of a dishwasher. But not a problem, dish soap and drainer were provided. A large balcony you can access from the bedroom and living room with two chairs and a small table. The bathroom was divided with a door to the bathtub, commode area. The vanity/sink area was large for all of our toiletries. Plenty of towels provided as needed. There was an in-room safe for a small fee but we did not have the need to utilize it. Paved beach access was across a small road. We had an upstairs corner unit with an ocean view from the balcony and windows. I would definitely recommend Plantation Hale and would stay here again.

Area recommendations
The east side of the island is an ideal base for exploring the entire island of Kauai. I would recommend this location for first time visitors.
Getting around
A rental car is a must to see the entire island. It was a must have for us. Very easy driving on the island.
What to pack
You don't need much other than your swimsuit and cover up. I didn't wear half of what I packed for a week in my carry on bag. A few pair of pants/shorts or capris and a few shirts/tops is it. Didn't find a need for any dress clothes.
Must see
Splurge on a helicopter tour, it was worth it. Kayak the Wailua river. Drive all the way up to the last lookout point of Waimea Canyon. Snorkel at recommended beaches.
Dining
Plan on eating dinner no later then 9:00 p.m. Restaurants close early on the island.
Events and shows
Go to a luau show if you haven't been to one before.

“Home Away From Home”

The amenities and spaciousness of the rooms here are excellent, and the location on the island is perfect to adventuring in either direction! The rooms are equivalent to a 1 bedroom apartment and the kitchen was definitely a bonus helping to save money throughout our trip. Heading north on 56 there is a grocery store just a few blocks away and heading south there's a Walmart about 10 mins away. The beach just across the way is beautiful. I can't recommend this place enough for overall value!
